Lyr Req: Virgin Islands

Subject: Edmundo Ros songs and lyrics
From: GUEST,Seth in China

Ros was a bandleader from the Bahamas in the forties and fifties. He recorded some nice songs " Virgin Islands", Chocolate Whiskey and Vanilla Gin", and others that I liked. Has anyone heard of him or his music? I sure would like to find the words to "Virgin Islands". Seth from China

The above link is dead. However, I was able to transcribe this much of VIRGIN ISLANDS from a couple of sound samples:

You'd better leave your doctor bills, leave all your pills.
If you're ill, what's the use if you're wealthy?
You eat a dish of fungi (?) and fish callaloo,
It's delicious and you'll be so healthy.

CHORUS: You better take a trip to the Virgin Islands
And rid yourself of your worry.
When you're relaxing on the sand, life will be so grand,
You'll be happy in a hurry.

How can you hug and kiss in the town
When the bright 'lectric lights shining down
Give you no chance.
But, my child, you … of the full moon that shines on this island of romance.

[Songwriters credited are "Benjamin, Lamotta, Weiss." ASCAP clarifies this as Bennie Benjamin, Bill La Motta, and George David Weiss. They seem to be rather prolific songwriters.]

VIRGIN ISLANDS
As sung by Edmundo Ros on "Calypsos" (2010)

1. If you should find yourself in a stew with your love
and she's driving your life kind o' crazy,
I say, my friend, the best thing to do is take a trip
where the climate is lovely and lazy.

CHORUS: You better take a trip to the Virgin Islands
and rid yourself of your worry.
While you're relaxing on the sand, life will be so grand,
you'll be happy in a hurry.

2. You work for years and pray for the day you'll retire
and your life will be like milk and honey,
And then a taxicab comes your way, knocks you down,
and your wife will collect all the money.

3. You'd better leave your doctor bills, leave all your pills;
if you're ill, what's the use if you're wealthy?
You eat a dish of fungi and fish callaloo;
it's delicious and you'll be so healthy.

4. How can you hug and kiss in the town when the bright
'lectric light shining down gives you no chance?
But, my child, you're goin' to go wild 'bout the full moon
that shines on this island of romance.

5. You take a donkey cart and you ride and you ride
to the beach at lagoon ev'ry morning.
There in hotel upon the kim ring(?) and the bus
they come back to the land you were born in.
