God bless the postman who brings the mail I think it might have been by Bobby Driscoll or some child singer. I have the melody in my head, but would like to find all the correct words. Can anyone help? |

17 Jul 01 - 11:59 PM (#509253) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: Jukebox Thanks so much KT! I think the second verse goes: "Bless all the spacemen on my tv set And bless the servicemen...please don't forget." I had a red plastic 78 speed recording of this, but it got lost through the years. I would give a pretty penny to get a copy somewhere, but can't imagine where to begin looking. Thanks again for your help. -Jukebox |
18 Jul 01 - 12:03 AM (#509254) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: Jukebox Oh, by the way...I wore out many needles on my little record player listening to that record and others. We're talking about 45-50 years ago! Yikes! |
18 Jul 01 - 01:21 PM (#509694) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: KT Okay, jukebox. After the servicemen, it's, please don't forget, bless the circus acrobats, and never let them fall. God bless the folks I love, God bless them all.
Then I think there is an instrumental break, (which quite conveniently explains why neither of us can remember lyrics here), and then the mom's voice comes in and says, "Anyone else dear?" Then he goes into I looked for tyou on some of the Bobby Driscoll websites, but couldn't find it. I'll let you know if I do. KT

Now that I have the words, I can sing it to my grandkids. I may be wrong about the artist. I tried looking up Bobby as well. Thanks, KT |
19 Jul 01 - 11:06 AM (#510280) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: GUEST,KT Yes, it's a tune and a song I always loved when I was little. It was the first one I would reach for when we pulled out the old box of kiddie records. In your searching, you might want to try "God Bless Us All." I think that may be the real title. Your grandkids are lucky to have you! KT |
08 Jan 09 - 02:48 AM (#2534804) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: GUEST,Susan in CA I just had this song pop into my head today and thought about googling it. I can't believe I found all these others looking for it too! My mom taught it to me when I was a child and then got the record. Thanks all of you for filling in the blanks that I had. Anyone remember Little Toot the tugboat? Maybe it was being with my grandkids this holiday that brought it back. |
08 Jan 09 - 05:50 AM (#2534903) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: God Bless The Postman... From: KT Hi Susan. Here we go again...."Little Toot was just a tug....just a happy little tug, and he came from a line of tugboats fine and gay! But it seems that Little Toot, he just didn't giver a hoot...." Yep! It was in the same box of old records and another favorite of the kids in my family back then. I live on the water now and see lots of tugs on a regular basis. Guess what song runs through my head when I do? kt |

24 Aug 10 - 02:41 AM (#2971549) Subject: ADD: God Bless Us All From: Joe Offer Here's a little more, maybe the whole thing: GOD BLESS US ALL (lyrics by Tom Murray, music by Tony Burrello) God bless the postman, who brings the mail. And bless the cowboys, out on the trail. Bless the man who waves to me, when the train goes by. Bless all the pilots, riding through the sky.
Bless every spaceman, on my TV set.
[instrumental break]
(Mom's voiceover, speaking) "Anyone else, Darling?"
Bless Mommy and bless Daddy, who come each time I call. |

Joe, why'd you leave out the choral passage in the Boyd recording? === God bless the postman, who brings the mail. And bless the cowboys, out on the trail. Bless every spaceman, on my TV set. |
24 Aug 10 - 11:51 PM (#2972241) Subject: RE: Req/ADD: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: Joe Offer Well, I wasn't able to find sheet music, but it appears to me that the Brucie Weil record is the earliest, and most likely to be the definitive version of the song. The "mommy" has a two-line introduction to the song on the Weil record - I admit I left that out. -Joe- |
21 Mar 11 - 10:43 AM (#3118263) Subject: RE: Req/ADD: God Bless The Postman / Bless Us All From: GUEST,Susan in NM I was looking for the words to this song and found this thread. I have a 33 1/3 rpm record from Peter Pan Records with this song on it. Right now I cannot use my record player but can remember the tune. The name of the record is Children's Songs of Reverence. Apparently it is performed by the Peter Pan Orchestra and Chorus. It has these songs on it - Lord's Prayer, Jesus Loves Me, Angels in the Sky, Savior Teach Me Day by Day, Rock of Ages, Jesus Tender Shepherd Hear Me, He, Stand Up Stand Up for Jesus, God Bless Us All, Onward Christian Soldiers, Because, and Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. I can't find a recording date. I loved this record as a child. |

I'm 68 and remember falling in love with Nancy Rogerman at Hanstein Elementary School in the eastside of Detroit MI after hearing her sing this song at several school assemblies and talent shows! What a beautiful voice she had and what a lovely song. I only remembered the first couple verses and snippets of the others. Thanks to all for putting the whole song together. |
