Lyr Req: Who Paid the Rent for Mrs Rip Van Winkle?

Subject: Rip Van Winkle

I've tried a lyrics search and can't find this one.
Please help me find missing lyrics in this old song:

Oh, oh, many years ago
Lived the wife of happy Rip Van Winkle.
One day she drove poor Rip away
And the (merry?) stars began to twinkle.
All that he had he had under his hat
And she was glad to see him go, so,
Over the hills he went
Left her without a cent
One thing I'm anxious to know

CHORUS:
Who paid the rent for Mrs. Rip Van Winkle
When Rip Van Winkle went away?
And while he slept for twenty years
Who was it (dried away?) her tears?
She had no friend in the place
Had no one to embrace
Yet the landlord always found her with a smile on her face.
Who paid the rent for Mrs. Rip Van Winkle
When Rip Van Winkle went away?

(Now the real missing parts!)
Oh, oh, many years ago
-------------crossed the Alps in winter
Oh, oh, (history? the bible?) says it's so
-------------stubbed his foot upon a splinter.

I need this second verse. I know the song is silly, but it's fun! It has to be more than fifty years old.

MMario So near and yet so far. I cannot get into this search site but get an error message that I should report to the systems administrator. I find Box 149 listed and then nothing to help me. How did you find it? I'd follow your footsteps, but the wind has covered them with snow HELP!

MMario, I got as far as the page with the 5 miniature sheet music pages, but when I went to enlarge the pages so I could read the lyrics (my whole purpose was the lyric search!) I was given an error message that my system administrator should correct something or other. I am not a techie, just a simple minded person. I wouldn't know where to start with that. I posted this problem on the Trouble page. IN THE MEANTIME if you can get to that page, and can enlarge the images, and read the lyrics, and post them for me, I can let the air out of my tensed up lungs. (Whew, that is.) My late husband (born 1917 and died in 1982) knew all kinds of funny songs. This was one he knew. He must have been a little kid when he heard it.

WHO PAID THE RENT FOR MRS. RIP VAN WINKLE
(Lyric - Alfred Bryan Music - Fred. Fischer ~ 1914)
(Levy Collection - box 154a item 148)

Oh, oh, many years ago
Lived the wife of happy Rip Van Winkle
One day she drove poor Rip away
As the little stars began to twinkle
All that he had, he had under his hat
And she was glad to see him go,
So, over the hill he went
Left her without a cent
One thing I'm anxious to know

CHORUS: Who paid the rent for Missus Rip Van Winkle,
When Rip Van Winkle went away?
And while he slept for twenty years
Who was it kissed away her tears?
She had no friends in the place
Had no one to embrace
But the landlord always saw her
With a smile on her face
Who paid the rent for Missus Rip Van Winkle
When Rip Van Winkle went away?

Oh, oh, many years ago
Napoleon crossed the Alps one day in winter
Oh, oh, history tells us so
Julius Caesar stepped upon a splinter
Miss Cleopatra she knew how to love
She put a Mark on Anthony
So, I searched in history
To clear the mystery
One thing that's worrying me

Chorus

THANK YOU MMARIO and anyone else who had a hand in fixing this! I got the sheet music and copied out the words! I thought I could also copy out the sheet music, but my computer won't copy this at all. Never mind, I know the melody well enough, and now I have filled it all the details. I was surprised to find out that the song writers, Alfred Bryan and Fred Fischer also wrote Peg O' My Heart - a classic!
