18 Jul 01 - 07:28 PM (#509992) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Susan of DT Hey, I have not been counting. Probably more than Naemanson and less than Bill. But probably close to Bill's tally. |

I would love to meet any mudcatters. mmm By the way is anyone planning to attend Farm Aid in Sept? I am definately going to be there. Would really enjoy meeting people. |

18 Jul 01 - 07:33 PM (#509998) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Dave Wynn I dislike the idea of competition but I have met Bill S and found him a most warm , knowledgable and erudite person (and he can rattle a tenor banjo a bit). I look forward to meeting you and I am sure you will have equivalent qualities.....More to the point...how can we assist you here in the UK in realising your ambition? Spot |

18 Jul 01 - 09:05 PM (#510040) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Amergin basically, Bill, he wants to see if he can meet more Catters than you...in the next couple of years...and he was saying something about a big deep wet sloppy kiss from you, while you wear a tutu, if he wins.....so I think you had better win |

18 Jul 01 - 09:32 PM (#510054) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: catspaw49 Ya' know you learn new stuff here all the time. I've made over 12,000 posts and that's the first time I ever heard you could "score" at bbc's place........and three times!!! I never got an offer like that Brett!!! I really thought I knew Beebs better than that too...........Like I say, something new all the time. To be fair Brett, it took Bill over three years and I think 4 trips over here to meet me, so I'll have to play "hard to get" myself (unlike bbc). If I see you at the Getaway, I'll have to deny being me and say I'm the Ghost of Smokey Joe. I know you'll understand. Spaw |

18 Jul 01 - 10:31 PM (#510073) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: dwditty When I saw this thread, I thought it was going to be a leather carving challenge. After the reaction I got at a gathering this weekend when I put the beautiful strap Bill made me on my guitar, though, I would encourage everyone to just step aside. Likewise, Bill is the undisputed Marquis of Mudcat Handshakes and Hugs. After all, he did it first. Everyone else who follows will be a "Me, too." dw |

19 Jul 01 - 04:08 AM (#510180) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Wolfgang Yesterday this thread made sense. Today the first four posts have disappeared and with the first post missing in which Naemanson explaining in which way he wants to challenge Bill it makes no sense at all any longer. Brett, could you please repost your first post again? Wolfgang |
|
19 Jul 01 - 10:04 AM (#510209) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: catspaw49 You're right Wolfgang! Wonder when they disappeared and how? Sure doesn't make any sense now! Brett was basically saying he's going to do a lot of travelling over the next two years and as Bill holds the record for most "Catters met, he's challenging him because he thinks he'll meet more........or words to that effect. Where are you Brett? Spaw |

19 Jul 01 - 10:10 AM (#510215) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: bill\sables Oh!! so that's what it's all about. It makes sense now. OK Bret, who will be first in OZ? but there is another contender Allan C who has been around and must be near my score if he has not overtaken it. Bill |

19 Jul 01 - 10:10 AM (#510217) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Jon Freeman The thread dissapearence was reported in the Help Forum last night. I have sent a PM to Pene asking him to take a look. I made it 6 posts gone including the original. I must admit, I found it quite ammusing last night as I was keeping an eye on the thread in case anything else happened, to see a couple more posts come in to a thread which as Wolfgang said, no longer made sense. 19 Jul 01 - 10:24 AM (#510227) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: bill\sables This is where I call upon the honour of my British countrymen and women. We can't let this Yankie just come along and take another British record like they do in the Olympics, So if you see a big bearded old codger with a sailors hat and an American accent cover up your mudcat tee shirts and don't let him woo you with his great voice when he sings you them sea songs. His photo is on the photo page in the quick links, copy it, memorise it, and then eat it. On the other hand if you see an older bloke with a big grey/white beard please say hello, It just might be me. Cheers Bill |

19 Jul 01 - 10:32 AM (#510241) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Naemanson I'm here! And my thread has been mangled! Oh the agony of it all. I'm not sure I remember the fine language I used in my first post. Essentially I wanted to set up a harmless and fun competition in which the undisputed king of the hill (in meeting our brothers and sisters) was challenged for his title. I have no real interest in "winning" but it seems a good way to spend the next couple of years. And even if I "lose" I will have won because I will have met a lot of damn fine people. Plus, the "competition" is open to anyone who cares to join in. I intend to use this thread to post the names of those I've met. I invite others to join in the fun. Susan and Dick are probably good contenders as must be Sandy and Caroline. I guess, basically this is just a good excuse to travel and go to parties. Anything wrong with that? |

19 Jul 01 - 10:34 AM (#510245) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Dave the Gnome I thought he had suddenly become a blues singer! You know, Blind Blake, Lemon Jefferson, Reverend Gary Davies. Could start a new trend. Challenging Bill Sables, Problematic Peter Parker, Bloody Awkward Arthur Arkright... Oh, bugger, just realised it's time for the medication again;-) Cheers Dave the Gnome |

19 Jul 01 - 10:54 AM (#510265) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Pene Azul Hey folks, I must have inadvertently deleted some posts from this thread last night. I'm not absolutely certain, but I can see how it might have happened, and I'm pretty sure I did it. As far as I know, this is the first time I have made a mistake that has significantly damaged our data, and I hope it's the last. I'll work on a system to make such a mistake impossible in the future. I was fortunate enough to meet Bill last year, and hope to meet Brett and many more of you soon. I don't think I can challenge Bill, though. I deeply apologize to everyone who posted to this thread, and to anyone who read it or will read it. I'm sorry about any confusion this has caused.
You humble elf, |

19 Jul 01 - 11:02 AM (#510272) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: bill\sables Bret, You have got to realise that I have already met most of the southern Maine catters which you introduced to me, so in return anytime you can get over to the Jug I will introduce you to the gang where you could score between 20 and 30, but remember Sam and I are going to the Getaway this year so you better be there or else you will never get to meet Catspaw, Katlaughing and Joe Offer etc. ( Shit!! did I mention Kat & Joe in the same sentance) Then there is the European gathering next May in Belguim hosted by Mooman and we are hoping to have a big UK gathering this winter sometime. What about you join Allan C and me when we do the Australia / New Zealand great mudcat adventure part 2. Anyway if you meet just a fraction of the people I have met you are assured of a great time, There are the most wonderful, friendly, folks in the world. I feel honoured to have met them. Bill |

I think Dick Greenhaus and Susan of DT have met a lot of us, but he hasn't been counting. |

19 Jul 01 - 01:06 PM (#510405) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Charley Noble I'm sure "censorship" was responsible for the apparent delitions, not so much for what Brett said as for what he was thinking.;-) Now anyone who thinks they can "keep" Brett needs to be disillusioned. Brett has an ironclad contract to perform with Roll & Go, here in greater Maine, and if he shows signs of taking root somewhere else we'll send out our reprobag team in the dead of night. |
|
19 Jul 01 - 01:09 PM (#510415) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Naemanson I have a contract? When did that happen? Did you know there is another job opening in Crete? I really need to consider going overseas... |
|
19 Jul 01 - 05:38 PM (#510733) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: Charley Noble Yes, Brett, there's an opening in "Crete", as in con-crete sea boots, and that's the only way you'll be jumping ship! You better re-read Roll & Go's corporate by-laws. |

07 Aug 01 - 08:43 AM (#522491) Subject: RE: Challenging Bill Sables From: bill\sables Brett, your score is getting there, I would be pleased if you overtook me in the ratings but you still have a long way to go. Seriously though you have done very well living in a corner of the USA. I had to travel far to get as many as you. I find that it is easier to add to the score these days as more people are discovering mudcat. Just on Sunday I was at a session and an old friend of mine from years back announced he had joined up. And you cant miss Mr Red if you ever see him. Bill |
