Origin: Yorkshire Romance for Two

Back in the 1980's, my popular (?) beat combo "Eric" (with the late Nigel Chippindale) regularly performed this song, using appalling puns relating to Yorkshire towns.
It was written by a friend of Nigels, but who??
Have recently recorded it with The Fraser sisters, and would like to credit him.......Any help?

The Postman's no letter
I thought I might get a
reply, 'cos one's long overdue
And, I fondly remember>br> A year last September
Our Yorkshire romance for two........(etc)

Regards Ralphie

(smart ass comment coming--beware) Ask the Duchess of York. I'm sure she could tell you about romance in York.

(I'm sorry, really, but I just couldn't stand it anymore) After all, how many other divorced couples are still "in love" and live together?

Hey! I remember - with great love - you guys singing it; IMO it's up with the very best of the Folk humorous songs, so it's great to hear you've recorded it . .

I'd always assumed Nigel had written it himself . . looks like our bank balance is due for another slump at Sidders . .

I'm more sure of the "popular" than the "beat" in relation to Eric . . after all, I did try to book them twice in their relatively short existence (but Ralphie and Colin couldn't make the second date . .)

Why did neither Eric nor The Hop make it into the studio?? (Am I right in remembering Nigel's "big band" as being "The Hop"? Grey matter distinctly in decline, as we've observed before . . )

Cheers!

George

George...we'd just started to plan the Eric album, when Nigel's Illness got in the way, The Hop did a Beeb session, one track of which will be appearing on a forthcoming Hobgoblin Sampler...Not sure when Regards Ralphie

Those were the days . .

There's some Hop stuff on the Nigel "Outakes" tape too, isn't there? Did you know Nigel was the first person to pay Chris (wifey, for those who don't know) for playing a gig? She thought she was just joining in for the fun of doing so, yet Nigel insisted on splitting the fee equally between himself and the two other musicians.

It's funny how a memory can be both extremely happy and terribly sad at the same time . .

Thanks for the info!

George

Yep....same stuff as on "Out-takes"....(When would they have recorded anything elase, I'm prompted to ask ????!!!) Ralphie
PS....Nigel even payed me a couple of times, normally it was just a bowl of Millett curry, and a glass of Pina Colada.

Yes, but you always did have a large glass . .

BTW I hope you're going to add an extra verse of Yorks. Romance. every couple of days, until we have the whole lot? And then take orders for the Fraser Sister's album . .
