To the tune it's sung in in Irish? To the traditional words sung to the interpolated tune "Deirdre" (the "Christ be with me, Christ within me" stanza that is normally given as the next-to-last verse of the Alexander hymn)? To any other pertinent details, discussion of origins, scholarly takes on Patrician provenance, etc., etc.? Liland Click for related thread |

So is there a different Irish text that underlies the other stanzas (1-7, 9) of Mrs. Alexander's St. Patrick's Breastplate (since only verse 8, the one sung to Deirdre, seems clearly and directly based on the Gaelic texts you guys found for me; that and part of verse 9)? Or did she write it all herself, or what? I have a MIDI of seven verses, and one of 9 verses, accessible from my Hymnal Additions page (listed under "St. Patrick's Breastplate" in the list of newly added melodies (sorry it's not in English; the Cyber Hymnal MIDI is lacking the Deirdre interpolation).
