Brotherly Support

My sister, Eileen Penman, is performing at the Waverley Bar in Edinburgh, on August the 6th, with the group 'Stairheid Gossip'

She is also doing a solo in the same pub on August 17

I've a couple of reasons for telling you this, one is because I can't be there to support her in person.

The other is because I will not even be able to be in touch with her as, subject to a bed being available, I expect to be on the receiving end of a new heart valve this time on Monday.

It's nearly ten years since we saw each other, though Paltalk has made contact a lot more frequent. I'm sure she would get a kick out of meeting some of Scalliwag's singing companions.

For myself, I hope to return to the small mic just as soon as it's possible

Jack

HeyaJacko, If I was in Scotland, I'd be happy to go meet your sister and listen in, as long as "sisterly" support was okay, too.:-)

Have you got someone who can keep us posted on your progress, please? Even if they were to just PM one of us, it would be nice to know how you fare. Either way, I'll be thinking about you and know that we'll hear you on the "small mic" again, soon.

May all good things come to pass for you and yours,

luvyakat

jacko - I never thought I would say something like this - but *PLEASE* follow Catspaw's good example - at least regarding coming through surgery and having a good, fast recovery!

My thoughts are with both you and your sister, Jacko .... may you have success both "on stage" and "in the theatre".

May she 'break a leg' and you not! Seriously, Jacko, thanks for the heads up and best wishes for a speedy recovery and the ability to spend quality small mic time.

Jacko, I hope you are in touch with Spaw. If I have heard him correctly, you will feel like a new person almost immediately when the blood flows through. Be well! We will be waiting for an update.

If I have heard him correctly, you will feel like a new person almost immediately when the blood flows through." feeling like a new person is all very well, but where would you get one of those in a Hospital??? Best wishes mate, and I will be thinking of you...

Hey Jacko......I will be sending some good thoughts to your Sis and hope she knocks 'em out with her performance.

As for you........Yeah man, you'll be more than in my thoughts. They should have repaired or replaced my mitral valve when they did the Quad By-Pass 5 years ago. I didn't realize how weak I was becoming as I still felt pretty good. The past two years have really been going downhill and yet I continued to feel what I thought was okay. I was fortunate to have my valve replaced by a new procedure using the daVinci robot by a top man in the field and thus had very little surgical trauma, but no matter how it's done, you will feel better right away. In post-op, my wife Karen said that she saw a new color about me immediately! After passing through the post surgicals, I began to feel better too and I tell you true my friend, I haven't felt this good, no GREAT, in 10 years or more! There was one point where I swear I was felling stronger by the minute........not the hour, or the day.....literally by the minute!!!

I have a St. Jude's Valve which is still preferred here over the porcine repalcements. They last a lloooonnnnnggggg time and are pretty trouble free. The only drawback being the need to be on Coumadin forever, but what the hell is that? No big deal. No anti-rejection meds needed and my valve is happily "ticking" away. Yeah, you can hear it although I rarely hear mine unless the acoustics are right. Other people can hear it often and to those who love you, no finer song can ever be sung than the simple ticking of that valve. They use them on aortic valve replacements too.

Write me huh?....... and continue to post and let us know how things are.....Okay? You have much support here in the Village of Mudcat and we will all be sending you the best and strongest thoughts we have for a successful operation and recovery. If you can, have someone there keep us posted if you can't.

My e-mail is catspaw@buckeyeinternet.com if you or they want to use that instead, but please let us know. We're pulling for you Jack and I DO KNOW how much better you'll feel....breathe better too..........it's amazing!!!

I don't know whether anyone is around to post for Jack. I had a nice PM from him just prior to heading for the hospital and I don't know if he got my return PM. He was happy to hear from another "valve job guy" as he'd only talked to by-pass folks. I have been thinking of him too and hope all is well. I told him he'd have plenty of thoughts and prayers from here and from his PalTalk friends.

Those of you on PalTalk......If you hear anything, how about coming back and posting it here?

Coming from Catspaw, somehow the phrase "Valve job" looks like a typo, doesn't it?

But seriously, best of all to you, and hope your sis' gig goes wonderfully!

Jacko!
Thought of you today, hope all went well and your new valve will soon have you firing on all four cylinders again soon!
Mum had a bypass 5 weeks ago today and she has made an amazing recovery, as has the lady in the next bed to her, who had a 'valve job'
Hope to hear you again soon on the little mike!

While we wait, just another thought. Garrison Keillor who does "Prairie Home Companion" in Public Radio has also just had a new mitral valve put in and is doing well.

Looking forward to hearing from someone about Jack. You are still in my thoughts my friend.
