Rummaging through CD's, find old Tommy Makem version of "Butcher Boy", wonder for nanosecond if DT will have it. Check DT, of course, Women's Song Circle thread ( an old favourite, totally forgot that ALICE IN MONTANA -- Yeaah, Alice! -- posted it and discussed it and variants in 1999, helped by a little quiet infrastructure support from Joe Offer, one of countless), check out variants mentioned, read another 10 threads and ramifications. Typical (yawn) daily Mudcat excellence at work. Take it for granted? (I don't think so). yours, Peter T. |

I just started looking something up, and got caught up in the various threads, I'm on my fourth hour of reading old threads. Hmmm. This isn't good. I'm thinking again! |

Confusion of the DT (Digital Tradition) with the "Mudcat."
They ARE NOT the "same creature"
"Max" is mearly one of several "servers/repositories" for the DT.....the Real Genius and labor and toil and sweet/sweat for the DT lie with Dick and Susan..... Max is only a minion who benefits from their generous labors....and reaps the praise of more humble gleaners. |

05 Aug 01 - 09:06 AM (#521307) Subject: RE: Thanks for the Daily Help, Mudcat! From: Peter T. Nothing like trying to drive a wedge between Dick, Susan, and Max, eh? Mr. Parasite on the Energy of Conflict returns. You don't get the idea, do you, in life or here? Some things work better when they work together in mutual support, like the DT and the Mudcat. To be clear about this, no one is more worshipful of the DT than I am, Dick and Susan are beyond praise. But the interesting thing (which is one of the pleasures of this little hybrid) is that the DT did not have this version of the song (it has another), but it shows up in the common search with the Forum. Lo and behold, tucked away in the Women's Song Circle thread is the song, and the discussion. And the various other threads, which led me to some other songs, yes back in the DT, for variations. One leads to the other. The whole idea of the Mudcat - DT is symbiotic, not parasitic. But you wouldn't know about that, would you? yours, Peter T. |
