It's 7:15 Mudcat time.......it is Tuesday, isn't it? Did I miss something last week? I know Max said he might stop the show altogether, but I heard nothing about no show this week.........

I wonder if it is because he and Pene have been working so hard on the changes?

He said something last week about cutting back on the shows. I don't remember him saying it was going to start with THIS week, though!

Rats! I hardly ever get to listen live on Tuesday night, but do enjoy the archive every week. No more radio? Say it isn't so!

45 minutes after it should have started, only few people are bothered enough to post that it's not on

I don't think I'd continue to put myself out for 3 or so fawning fans

I'd been looking forward to the radio show all day... shame if it's cancelled without us knowing.

I'm in icq ok Kendall, but very few others in, so I wondered whether there might be access probs tonight.

Well, Guest there are usually 15 or so of us in ICQ, and a LOT more listening live who don't chat. Lots more than that listen to the archive, so don't take it upon yourself to decide how many fans Max has, OK?

Kendall, if you're trying to get into Folk Chat, Max has to open it up.

As long as we're counting, I was looking for the show as well & was glad to see I'm not the only one wondering.

Jon Freeman has opened Folk Chat, in case anyone feels like talking. As for me, it's WAY too hot to sit by the computer for more than just a short stretch.

OK, GUEST?

Sorry Max........I can easily see where it has gotten to be less enjoyment and more of a headache. Sorry I was away and missed the last show though...........Anyway, we have a great archive of shows ans perhaps what you need is to do "Mudcat Specials." Every now and then when there's a good bunch in town or something like a monthly thing perhaps?

Mudcat Radio like other parts of the 'Cat has been an integral part of the whole and I hate to see it go entirely, but that call is always yours. In any case, thanks for an awful lot of fun and some really wonderful shows with moments that burned away miles, oceans, and continents, and gave us that real village and community feel. Thank you.

Spaw

Max...a little message would help...no one can tell you what to do and when....but clue us in as best you can...not everyone was listening to your offhand remark last week...we LIKE the show, and it is a social occasion for many.

Well, I hope like hell we still get to do the odd "Special Show". I have some pretty fine folks lined up for the Tuesday after FSGW. C'mon, Buddy, let us know what is up. I know it is a lot of work for you, but can we still do the show in October? Based on who is going to be at FSGW, we should have a pretty good one. PM me if need be.

Mick

What 'Spaw said up there goes for me too. I can well understand Max wanting to take a break from broadcasting; however, I hope like hell it's just a temporary rest that will let him catch his breath and refuel for more shows later on.

The Mudcat Radio is the only way for many 'Catters to share their music with (literally) the world, and also lets us hear artists we might never be exposed to otherwise. And being able to 'see' Max, Marymac, bert, Pene, and all the 'Catters who have passed through Mudcat Central, has made this place much more 'real' to me. It's an integral part of this place, albeit a major pain in the arse for dear Max and his elves. I'd hate to see it go, but Max has to think of himself and what 'floats his boat'.

Max, take a break and get 're-wired' with your fantastic creative energy and come back with an even better (if that's possible) Mudcat Radio II.

We love ya man, Áine

Sorry all. I should have posted a thread and at least opened the FolkChat. Anyhow, I wasn't feeling 100% yesterday and it was about 100 degrees in the studio and we didn't have any guests, so I just skipped it. Thought I'd leave you hanging for a bit after my comments last week. A little (early) late for April Fools though. Anyhow, we'll be back next week. Not sure of the future of the Radio Show, I like doing it, but for the summer at least I may take a couple of weeks off here and there, so don't freak out if there is not show that week. I'll see if I can program something to run in its place. Thanks for your kind words all.

Well-earned, Max.

One idea Rog had was for you to hook up with a group of Catter, elsewhere, who could be on PalTalk, and you broadcast their concert or session over Mudcat Radio. There wouldn't be the visual unless they had someone like Rog to set up the video, etc., but I think it would be kind of neat.

We sort of did that, on our own when Bill Sables and AllanC and Mimosa and Sorcha came out to our house. Rog set up a mic in the living room, connected to the computer, we fired up HearMe, posted a thread, and had several people tune in.

This might be a great way of programming whole live shows of talent from around the globe, which wouldn't be as dependent on you for entertainment, etc. Of course someone would still have to be there to make sure it went out over the radio, etc.

Anyway, just an idea.

Hey! Doing anything every single week can get hard no matter how much you love it. That's what vacations are for, take some time off & feel fresh about it all over again when you come back.

I don't think you need to provide alternate programming. If you just tell us you're on vacation we can cope! Listen to an old program, listen to Hober, whatever.

Hope you're feeling better!

I agree with Burke, no need for you to worry about providing something while you're away.

The above suggestion was meant as something to do for a regularly scheduled show.:-)

I have to ask: did Max call MaryMac and explain his change in plans? Or did she arrive a little late and think she had been locked out?

08 Aug 01 - 11:29 PM (#524091)
Subject: RE: ? No Radio Tonight?
From: Max

MaryMac knows me well enough to have called during the day to see if there would be a show. If you could all just hear the shit we talk about off the air, you'd understand a lot more (read my lips when songs are playing). I'm contemplating a show, not to be archived, to explain it to all of you. Anyhow, yes, she knew not to show, I wouldn't do that to her.

I can testify to the heat and support Max in his decision not to do the show. When I was there in June I felt the heat to be barely tolerable. I can't imagine how it must be in August.

It's barely tolerable HERE! I went across the street to talk to my neighbor, and she just happened to have here sprinkler on. You guessed it - an "accident." (She apologised, and went over to aim it somewhere else, and I said "awwww...")

I'm fairly sure the room with the computer gets up over 100F. (That's greater than 38C.)

Max, you're OK. You've done the show almost every week. Even without the heat, I can understand needing a break. It's summer, dammit - go find an ocean to jump in nekkid!

And then run the video on the archive - well it was just a thought!:)
We all take breaks so why not you! We've just come back from a fortnight away so we can catch up on last weeks show. Looking forward to many more.
