08 Aug 01 - 01:41 PM (#523644) Subject: tab:morgan on the railroad From: GUEST,tony I was at the mbotma festival in Minn last weekend and heard a fiddle tune played by a woman at a late night jam....she called it "Morgan on the Railroad" and said it was by Green, which I took to be Richard Greene. I can't find it anywhere. Would like to learn it on mando. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Ed "Buck" Barnes plays it on "Traditional Fiddle Music of Kentucky, Vol. 2: Along the Kentucky River" (1997). Jeff Winegar and Martin Fox play it on "The Way It Was" (2008). |

My wild guess, in light of the Kentucky origin, is that the titular Morgan is the Confederate General John Hunt Morgan, who, with his 2nd Kentucky Cavalry Regiment, raided Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio with the in 1862 and 1863. |
