Lyr Req: Lone Shanakyle

I was so pleased with the response to my last request I'm going to ask for another one, even though I haven't had time to reset my cookie (thanks Malcolm for info, will do it tomorrow when I've had time to look at the directions.) Deanta recorded this song on an early album-- no words available. Have figured out most but need some help. Any one have the words? Thanks

What you need to do is type lone shanakyle into that useful "Digitrad and Forum Search" box; it's been posted here more than once.

Ah;I read the thread title and didn't see that your message had a different one; never mind.  Lyrics for Lone Shankyle and Cold Grey Fairyland -whichever you're after- can be found in previous threads with a wee search as described.

This song was composed by Thomas Madigan of Carnacalla, Kilrush(1797-1881). He was a scholar and a poet who composed in both Irish and English. This song was written about 1860, the last verse being inspired by an expected Fenian rising. The air is a variant of AN PAISTÍN FÍONN, which has been discussed in other threads. 3,900 people died in the parish of Kilrush 1847-'49. There is a fine version of this song by Michael Flanagan on the C.C.E. publication, TRADITIONAL SONGS AND SINGERS.

Well in fact, I did want both and decided to go with the second one but I guess something didn't work right when I tried to retype. Interestingly though I had note the similarity in the tunes for An Paistin Fionn and Lone Shanakyle so am happy someone verified this!

I did try to find it in the DT but am happy to try your advice Malcolm. Thank you!
