Nothing musical about this at all, but I just wanted to congratulate the young British/Irish golfers who suceeded in again capturing the Walker Cup. Our boys played well but your guys played better!

I am sorry DougR but this is not acceptable. As you may or may not be aware we do not as a nation win anything- it is upsetting to think that our usual pattern has been disturbed (getting to the finals of any competion only to plummet miserably to the bottom). We have maintained this time honoured tradition quite recently in the Ashes cricket test series (3played 3 lost three more to lose)and of course we have been glorious in our failure at the world games in Edmonton dropping the baton in the relay being for us, the pinnacle of our achievements. And then you come along and spoil it. Many of us have spent years honing our gymnastic and athletic skills by producing spurious notes to the games teacher. Why, the words 'Sorry Linda cannot play hockey today..' became our school motto. My grandmother died four times in my attempts to get out of netball. So play the game DougR, and if we win anything else -just keep quiet about it!

Ickle Dorrit is right, 60 million Brits and they couldn`t win an argument, Europes gratest sporting nation [participant unless its club soccer with clubs fielding players from Timbuctoo to Cork. Slan Ard Mhacha.

Maybe not, but some of you folks play a pretty good game of golf. Your team succeeded in doing something they had not been able to do for the past 80 years:you won the Walker Cup in two successive outings on U. S. soil. I think that's something to crow a bit about myself.

So if Great Britain and Ireland haven't heard about this, pass the word around. It might make you feel better about yourselves, Ickle.

Could be! One of the lads, name of O'Hara, who represented (guess who?) Ireland, won the match that clinched it.
