As you may or may not be aware we do not as a nation win anything- it is upsetting to think that our usual pattern has been disturbed (getting to the finals of any competion only to plummet miserably to the bottom). We have maintained this time honoured tradition quite recently in the Ashes cricket test series (3played 3 lost three more to lose)and of course we have been glorious in our failure at the world games in Edmonton dropping the baton in the relay being for us, the pinnacle of our achievements. And then you come along and spoil it. Many of us have spent years honing our gymnastic and athletic skills by producing spurious notes to the games teacher. Why, the words 'Sorry Linda cannot play hockey today..' became our school motto. My grandmother died four times in my attempts to get out of netball. So play the game DougR, and if we win anything else -just keep quiet about it! |

Your team succeeded in doing something they had not been able to do for the past 80 years:you won the Walker Cup in two successive outings on U. S. soil.
