15 Aug 01 - 04:02 AM (#528396) Subject: Pffft You Were Gone From: Lee Shore Can anyone here come up with the lyrics to and old country song called "Pffft You Were Gone." ? Possibly Homer & Jethro? All I can remember is the opening phrase "Where oh where are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world over and though I'd found true love. You found another and pffft you were gone." Actually the "pffft" spelling is misleading, because it is sung as a raspberry. More like "Brrrrrp." |

The Pfft, You Wuz Gone was sung by Archie Campbell (in the cornfield usually with a guest), but who sang the Gloom, Despair...song? Was it Buck Owens and Roy Clark? |

15 Aug 01 - 11:41 PM (#528978) Subject: RE: Pffft You Were Gone From: Mark Clark Charcloth, I believe “Pffft You Were Gone” was originally a gospel song. The Hee Haw version was just a parody of the gospel version. I used to have the gospel version somewhere—maybe I still do—but I can't think where just now. - Mark |

I hope someone has the gospel version, but here is the regular version (at least how I do it) You looked so pretty the day we got married A holding the hand of our little boy son Your mama was frowning but your daddy was laughing As he stood there a holding that gig old shotgun CHORUS: Where o where are you tonight Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world over & thought I found true love You met another & phht you were gone

The (allegedly) original gospel song is given here, but I find it hard to believe this song was ever anything but a burlesque. A version recorded by Archie Campbell is posted here |
