Lyr Req: Pffft You Were Gone

Can anyone here come up with the lyrics to and old country song called "Pffft You Were Gone." ? Possibly Homer & Jethro? All I can remember is the opening phrase "Where oh where are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world over and though I'd found true love. You found another and pffft you were gone." Actually the "pffft" spelling is misleading, because it is sung as a raspberry. More like "Brrrrrp."

Buck Owens version written by Susan Heather is HERE.

Lots of other variants exist and are written about special fields or things we do.

It must be "Gloom, Despair, and Agony, Oh Me".

Huh, whaddaya know... I'd misremembered the lyric as "you was gone" (pronounced "yew wuz gawn"). Thanks for the edification!

Amazing what folks sang on radio in the 1960's.

This was a staple on the old "Hee Haw" show. IIRC, it was sung by Archie Campbell and Gordie Something-or-other.

I remember the old Hee Haw Show. There were two songs, as masato linked to above. The Pfft, You Wuz Gone was sung by Archie Campbell (in the cornfield usually with a guest), but who sang the Gloom, Despair...song? Was it Buck Owens and Roy Clark?

...or was it Jr. Samples and the "family on the couch"?

Would Gordie some-thing-or-other be Gordie Tapp who is now selling those fancy E-leck-trickle Beds?

LL, I think you got it. He and Archie stood in front of the fence and sang one verse and a chorus. Just a quick blackout sketch.

They used to have great fun on Hee Haw spitting on each other at the "pffft" part.

Damn, I miss Hee Haw...

Charcloth, I believe “Pffft You Were Gone” was originally a gospel song. The Hee Haw version was just a parody of the gospel version. I used to have the gospel version somewhere—maybe I still do—but I can't think where just now.

Where, O where, are you tonight?

Why did you leave me here all alone?

I searched the world over and I thought I'd found true love.

You met another and Phhfffft! you was gone!

(Add silly verses ad nauseum, ad infinitum!)

A staple of Homer & Jethro for many years.

Refresh. I hope someone has the gospel version, but here is the regular version (at least how I do it)

You looked so pretty the day we got married
A holding the hand of our little boy son
Your mama was frowning but your daddy was laughing
As he stood there a holding that gig old shotgun

CHORUS: Where o where are you tonight
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over & thought I found true love
You met another & phht you were gone

There are some more verses posted here.

The (allegedly) original gospel song is given here, but I find it hard to believe this song was ever anything but a burlesque.

A version recorded by Archie Campbell is posted here
