In browsing through the threads last night I found two new words (to me) -- "racifimento" and "mondegreen" Could someone please enlighten me as to what they mean ?

When I first heard the Highlander's Lament, a friend & I decided to learn it, he already knew most of it & was really teaching it to me, until we came to the verse where he sang about Brioccoli More, what's that, says I, Idon't know, a place where they grow broccoli in Scotland, no way they're singing about the broad claymore, the mighty 2 handed sword. His name I'll withhold, he may be readind, but it's one of my fondest folk music moments. Barry

racifimento. I took this old expression to be a remake of something. Old setting, and old characters, and go off in the same general direction as far as plot goes with a new song.

I tried to look it up without success, but from my rudimentary knowledge of Latin, "raficimento" makes more sense than "racifimento".

latest guess: it's Italian and it's "rifacimento"

rifacimento in Italian would be "remaking". On the other hand, if you take those little red things out of the middle of green olives, and roll them down a slope to see which one reaches the bottom first, that would be "racing pimentoes." Har har har.

G'day,
From my 1971 (English) Encyclopedic World Dictionary:- rifacimento n., pl -ti. a recast or adaption, as of a literary or musical work. [It.: a remaking. ...]

Alan
