Looking for old time banjo

I am looking for a used old time banjo. Any suggestions where to look on or off line? I am in the San Francisco Bay area.

Had great success buying a used mando online last year, but can't seem to find any good web sites to buy a banjo...other than Elderly and Folk of the Woods. If you have any suggestions for other sites, I would appreciate your input.

Go to the Banjo-L website and look up banjos for sale. Good luck

Lark In The Morning or maybe Mandolin Brothers? Both have interesting sites.

No bargains at Elderly right now but always worth a check. Noticed an S.S. Stewart 5-string on E-Bay auction last week bid up to about $400, probably worth around $700 if it's really as good as it looks; not clear what model it is. Looked tempting. Also Vega Whyte Laydie for around $1000. What are your specs besides "old-timey"?

Also check in newsgroups. Two that I am aware of are alt.banjo and alt.banjo.clawhammer. Ask on them if anyone knows of anything for sale and it may yield some results.

I think Charlie's made a good suggestion. Keep your eye on Ebay and watch patiently. I suspect you can find a good there at a price you're willing to pay - but you'll need to be patient, and do check out the seller profile info and chcek the descripts and pics well. Ebay could be a your best bet, on-line.

Ooops, sorry, I mean Charley - not Charlie!
