BS: Hollyoaks

In case anyone is interested, some members of the Earl of Stamford Morris (including yours truly on accordion!) will be appearing on Hollyoaks as part of the 'Heritage Fayre' storyline.

The episode is to be screened between 6:00 and 7:00pm on Wednesday August 22nd (Channel 4), repeated on E4 on Thursday, and the 'omnibus' on Sunday (Channel 4).

The director, Paul Carney, was (to his credit) keen to make the scenes as realistic as possible, and used a real morris side instead of actors pretending. It also swelled the side's coffers quite nicely, thank you!

It was an interesting day out for us - the set is actually at Mersey TV's headquarters (Campus Manor, Childwall), where Brookside is also filmed. We were there from 8:00am until 9:00pm - it will be interesting to see how that relates to actual air time!!

I don't know if any UK channels are available 'across the pond', but E4 is only available on digital TV over here.

We won't see it unless BBC-America carries it here. Wow, though! That is really Brill!! Congratulations!! I hope you have someone making a video of the show whwen it airs; if it could be converted, Max might be able to show your bit on Mudcat Radio night, sometime?!

Worthwhile? Wow! Never been called that before! Obviously we have never met!!

BTW, I also appear as the minibus driver when we 'arrive' at Finn's yard (I drove the thing all of fifty feet!) - and milling around as part of the 'crowd'.

Should be good for a laugh, if nothing else!

Hooray, morris dancers on Hollyoaks! Hollyoaks is my fave TV programme (no sarcasm here) so I'm very impressed! Will definitely be tuning in (well, would be anyway actually!).

My daughter is an avid fan, too - she was delighted, because I took her with me. She (and my grandson!) got to sit in the 'Diva cafe'...!! She also got to meet some of the cast.

Out of interest, Bernie (who plays 'Mr. C') had to learn the dance (Lillibulero) as his character was supposed to have been a morris man in his younger days. We were genuinely impressed at how seriously he took the challenge, and how quickly he learned. A real pro.

I'm starting to feel quite nervous even though we filmed it six weeks ago!!

So if I tune in tomorrow I can tell herself I'm watching it for the Morris dancers not the girls in wonderbras and too much make-up, hmmm, might work!
BTW I have seen bits of this on occasions, is Chester really full of cockneys and scots?

Bad news, I'm afraid! It's filmed in Childwall, Liverpool! - not very far from the end (start??!) of the M62. They do a little location work in Chester, but the set is next door to Brookside!

By all means use the Morris as an excuse for letching at the nubile creatures, though!! And we got paid for it!!

Well, if you blinked, you missed it! I could be heard for just over a minute, but it looked as if I was miming, because they used the audio from a different 'take' (or two...)!

As for the rest of the side, for what little bit you could actually see, they might just as well have been actors!

So sorry, Bernard... Well, I don't think Morris Dancing has EVER been seen on US network TV, so at least you did get it seen for a few seconds of coverage over there. My old friend and fellow 'cat, Jacob Bloom, is (or was--parenthood may have interfered!) a Morris Dancer up in Boston. There are quite a few sides in New England (and elsewhere) on this side of the puddle.

To quote Mr Barker......

"Waving hankerchieves, waving hankerchieves,
Big fat men with bells on, waving hankerchieves"

(To the tune of "Bringing in the sheaves" )

I'll be sure to have a look!
