It so offended my thirteen-year-old self - SHE didn't get those collars dirty - that I drastically cut down on my TV time. Thirty-five years on I still don't watch much TV - and I've never bought Wisk detergent.
On the other hand, hearing Richie Havens sing "All abooooaaard Amtrak, all abooaaaaard" embodied all the romance of train travel. |

29 Aug 01 - 04:13 PM (#537673) Subject: RE: BS: ...after ANOTHER commercial break From: Deda There's one where a little dog is running down a street, through a neighborhood, and finally into his home kitchen, past various distractions which he blithely ignores, mumbling to himself "kibbles an' bits, kibbles an' bits, kibbles an' bits". It's quite cute, in a crass commercial sort of way. "Cibum" is Latin for food, and my students have used that commercial to remember that. (Yes, I have taught Latin.) It's always a letdown when the work of great musicians is turned to commercial use. I love Gershwin, and I'll never really forgive United (I think it was United) for appropriating Rhapsody in Blue.
