There's a really nice session in the Golden Ball in York every sunday night from about 8:30. Its intended to be American old time music, but it varies a bit depending on who's there - usually 2-4 fiddles, 2 mandolins, 1 banjo (if I'm there), a couple of squeezeboxes, 1-2 guitars and a bass. It's near the city wall just south of Micklegate, but I can never remember the street name! Excellent real ale too.

Cheers
Ray

Eric, Thanks I will try to make it.. Is " The Jug" a pub?? Where pray tell, I mean what village ???? I am going to ask Sandy and Caroline for thoughts as well and I know they know Bill...Yes I think we will do a car.. Brit rail passes are $265.00 each and for three that sounds like renting a car is easier. I did drive on the wrong side of the road in Farnam last time. ( I was sleep deprived at the time beeing my first day there with no sleep!!!! Sorry. ) It would be great to see Johny Handle as well... Sinsull: I am taking my older boys( Ben 20 and Sam 19)to look at beautiful stone work and wood hundreds years old.I think they are going for the Beer <><><><> I thought Ripon and York. Fountains Abby is one of my faverite places on earth and Rolly Curtis( Son of Geaorge Curtis of Littlethorp pottery is inchs away.. Also I worked at Wheatherriggs Pottery outside of Penrith so I thought a day or two in the lakes would be fun.. I love Castlerigg. It is one of the most personal Stone circles in GB!!!Bardon Mill outside New Castle has a great salt glazed pottery called Errington Ray Pottery and the men who ran it are active in the Northumberland pipe So.. The owner of Weatherriggs is a great blues fan as well .. Potters and music do seem to go together.

Anyone need an instroment brought from the US????I saw a great Gibson LOO today at Fretted workshop,$1400.00 Also THere are some great banjos around here..Ahh the fun of it all. All the best to all here. and thanks for the information Above. Guy<><><><><><><><><><><><>><><><><><><><>><><><><><><><>>><><>><>>><><>

HI-The Jug is a pub at chapel Hadersley. Go down the A19 from York through Selby about 6 miles from Selby there is a X roads. (At Chapel Hadersley) There is a "Reliant" garage facing you on the left and a bridge in front of you. Turn left at the X roads and go about 200 yards along the road-there is the Jug. Keep us posted.

Cheers

Guy the pub made famous by the High Level Ranters is the Bridge Hotel at the Newcastle end of the High Level Bridge I think the club there still runs on a Thursday night but I could be wrong. I would advise you to bring a banjo, many people will let you borrow a guitar but a banjo might be a little harder to find. Whitby is worth seeing about 60 miles east of York on the coast. It is where Captain Cook sailed from and has connections with Bram Stokers Dracula. It will be great to meet you. Cheers Bill

There is a good car rental place near Mancester Picadilly train station (EasyCar I think) they do the Mercedes 'A' class for about 7 quid a day. But a rail pass is good as well. B&B in the North of England will probably cost you 15-25 quid a night now but there are plenty of ttavel lodge type places that do a room for 3 for about 40 quid. You and the lads would be more than welcome at our place (5 miles from Manchester) for free if you like. Just give us some notice so Mrs Gnome doesn't strangle me for springing people on her!;-) PM me or email me on dpolshaw@ntlworld.com. How old are the Boys? I have a 20 year old who knows the rock scene in Manchester pretty well. Plenty of jazz and folk in our fair but rainy city as well.

Let me know

Cheers

Likewise from me, Guy.

Hopefully you will still get over and if so the car place I was trying to think of is Easycarental they have a web site at www.easycarental.com (note ony one 'r'). The offer is a Merc. A class for 7 UKP per day between October and December. Dunno what the catch is.

Good luck, hoping you are not badly affected and thinking of all my American friends in their time of crisis.

Guy and family, if this particular trip is no longer possible, please make sure you reschedule it as soon as possible. The world must go on despite such evil acts.

International co-operation through the Mudcat Café is a force for good (however insignificant it may seem at the moment) which is needed now more than ever.

I hope to meet you when you make your trip.

Hello all, <><>< Today I had a score of people tell me that I should not even think of travel but the boys and I have the opinion that we are not going to be held back by such detestable actions in the world.. We choose to be independent in our actions.. If the roads are open we will be at the airport. If the flights are flighing we will be on them.. I will carry musical instroments and hope they are allowed. ><><><><><><><><><><><>Today I heard that one of the young adults on the plane that crashed out in the country-side of Pennsuvania called his mom to say that the plane had been hijacked and that they were going to die but that they were going to take back the plane and save lives on the ground. THere is bravory I admire..We hope to meet many of you very soon, !!!!!! All the best, GUY <><><><><><><>><><><><><><><><><>><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><

Hello Eric, No I didnt live in York but I did visit the Colledges folk club with a banjo in tow in either 72 or 73. or both! I remember one of the school houses (clubs) put me up afterwards. In the morning they told me they were the GAy Front. Very nice people as I remember! THere was also a great man who wrote a wonderful book on English Country Pottery at the mueseum there . ( The place with the remake of 19th century shops sort of underground if I remember) . <><><><><><><><><><><><> Wow Greycap , I'm inpressed. You remembered . Love sick blues sounds great in D tuning.. I have been working on a batch of early 19th century dance tunes from the copybooks of a finishing school from my town ( 1803 )Litchfield. Alot of those I have done in D or G tunings or D sus4 or G sus4 all the best to all here..Guy<><><><><><><><><>><>>>< AS I said before . Dose anyone ned anything from over here. Strings picks capos..
