Hmm, you're one to talk, Eric!!!
October 12th, 13th and 14th are the dates, and the venue is Llanfair Caereinion, which is about 10 miles west of Welshpool, North Powys. Everyone is welcome, it's accommodation that can be tricky. The railway haven't got back to me yet, but I'm hoping they are going to allow camping on their bit of grass. The train will be running that weekend, so people can do the trip if they want to. Costs about £15 return to Welshpool.
All we need now is a bar, and we've cracked it!!
I've been told that there have been bookings at Pippins already. If anyone needs phone numbers for B&B, let me know, because some that advertise as being in Llanfair are a few miles out, and those few miles can be critical if everyone has been drinking.
WARNING there is NO public transport in the area, unless you count the bws post.
Cheers, Bron.

The first thread about Llanstock 2001 can be found by clicking here (messages=99).

For those who don't know, The first UK Mudcat weekend gathering took place this time last year in Llanfair Caereinion, 10 miles west of Welshpool, North Powys, Wales. Whilst Bron (Llanfair) was planning and coordinating the event, it took on a life of its own, and a relation suggested that it was Llanfair's own version of Woodstock, hence Llanstock.

Llanstock Mk 1 was more successful than I think anyone could have imagined, and many great friendships were made which have continued and developed over further mudcat gatherings since, drawing more mudcat friends in along the way.

Mudcat history buffs might like to re-read the original threads where the idea of a 3D mudcat UK gathering was first hesitantly suggested...
UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend?
UK Gathering II
UK gathering 3
through to it taking place, Countdown to Llanstock
and the aftermath... Post-Llanstock

On the other hand they might like to read a story book, but then they'd miss out on a bloody excellent meeting/gathering, the first and foremost Mudcat gathering, which spawned all others including the Mudcat germany trip and the mudcat europeon gathering 2001.

You'd be better to read the threads people and see what you have missed and might be able to get to this year!

Cheers

Nicely done there, Noreen, couldn't have put it better myself! We're going to have a great weekend.
Bar should be finalised tomorrow, also potential campsite. Don't forget that B&B in the town is scarce, but there are people happy for mudcatters to use their spare bedrooms. Contact me if you need accommodation.

Ok, I just got permission from my boss to come, so I will come.

Bron, I would need about 1m by 2.2m (3'3" by 7'3") of floor space to sleep on - I can bring sleeping bag and camping mattress. If you could organise that for me, Bron, I'd be very grateful! I'd also need some help in getting there - can somebody pick me up at an airport and drop me there on the return? Birmingham is the closest, but London Stansted (cheapest flights land there), Manchester is also possible. Of course I will pay part of gasoline/petrol or whatever your car needs.

Hi all, any chance of me being "trailer trash" this year as Red Lion not doing B&B and Pippins starting to sound full up.

Please if I stay, keep me safe from skip as I wouldn't want the sheep to get jealous.

Andy, let us know how and what arrangements are being made for your arrival airport and arrival time. So the whole of the UK can be on standby to pick you up etc. I look to be having a problem getting transport myself this year as kids need car early on Sunday morning and saturday afternoon.

By gum, things are hotting up!!! The trailer, I think, holds 8 normal people, so that makes 23 mudcatters..............!!!!!! Julia (Pippins) is recovering from eye surgery, and is therefore not her usual organised self. There is accommodation in other places, and I am hoping to get finalisation of camping space tomorrow. All We need now is a bar. And I'm on to that as well. According to this thread, there's Eric, Alan, Noreen, Skip, Bill and Sam in the trailer so far. That should leave room for Mudguard, provided he doesnt plan to sleep at all!!! If sleep is necessary, there are spare beds being offered by friends.
Any more questions?
Cheers, Bron.

Liz, no we didn't finalize as I was not sure about coming before my bicycle trip. But thanks for picking me up! I am really looking forward to it (not only to Llanstock, but also to meeting you)!

For when should I book the flights? Friday morning to Stansted I guess - I can also take the train to London if that makes things easier for you. Return flight from Stansted to Munich on Sunday evening or Monday afternoon? (Depends on when Llanstock ends and when you are heading back to London - I got the Monday off after some discussions with my boss).

Andy - I'm taking the Friday and Monday off too, so it's best to use those days. The drive from here to Wales is about 4-5 hours, we will stop for T & P on the way.

Tell me your flights when you get them and we can go from there.

Monday afternoon is definately best, and it gives you the morning to sample our delightful London air (or go to Saffron Walden, which is nicer)!!

Let's get down to some serious decision-making!!!!!
The new landlord of the Red Lion will confirm wether he will do the bar for us on both nights. He said it would be easier if he only provided non-real ale brews, because they travel better. He has some "Cloud Nine" at the moment, hand made in Church Stretton, but it needs a few days to settle if it'd moved. You can get it at the pub, and he has no problem with music happening there, but it does get rather crowded on a saturday night.
Paul, the new landlord, doesn't trouble himself much with trivial things like licensing laws and closing times.
Draught Worthington's is the standard brew, so will that be OK?
Cheers, Bron.

Hey Andy-there are sheep, me and you will roast one at midnight!! or about 03.03 when everyone else is asleep. There's a resturaunt (Pippins) Pubs do food and just a few miles away a small town,(Welshpool) where shops stay open till lateish. A chps shop-I seem to remember near the red Lion. Last year I was at the red Lion and had breakfast there. Most important to me, is how do I get hold of the required 20 cups of coffee a day?

Andy, be mindful of the security on airlines, Britain has tightened right up I am led to believe (rightly so, I always carry at least one penknife, multi tool with me everywhere, don't mind packing it away to prevent future happenings though)

Pippins dinner was good last year.

Ah, yes, food!!!
Friday night there will be hot food available for arrivals and anyone who wants it at the Institute. I'm planning a curry, well, two curries, one veggie, the other for the carnivores. For those who can't cope with my cooking, the chippy will be open till 10ish.
Breakfasts will be available at Pippins, and My Mum's, directions later. I thought we would lay on a lovely German breakfast like we had in Muenster.
There will be tea and coffee being served at the institute Saturday afternoon, with snacks, and the chippy and Pippins will be open for Lunch.
For those with a tea or coffee habit, I'll lend you my front door key and show you where the kettle is!!!!
Will that do?
Cheers, Bron.

Mudguard - your shoes didn't have to be spayed? Had they been "fixed" already? (spaying is what happens to girl cats and doggies to stop them having more cats and doggies.... ) Nice picture of a vet looking at the bottom of a trainer and wondering where to put the scalpel!

Liz, it was just a typo, up to now I did not even know the word "spay"!

Smorgesboard sounds good! I do a good potato salad! And the East London Sausage company is at the end of the market, with such delights as wild boar and fruits of the forest sausages and vennison burgers!

Tempting, very tempting to venture north in October, can you tell us what the camp site is like. Presumably just a bare field ?

Ah to venture north, away from civilization, where the natives prey on thier knees and thier neighbours.

Gareth from Caerphilly. (Who says tribalism is confined to the third world).

Gareth, are you sure you are up to the fresh air and glorious scenery of mid-Wales!!!!
The campsite is actually rather nice. It's by the river, and near the light railway station. I've promised that there won't be too many tents, but it's all relative, isn't it?
Cheers, Bron.

Very very tempted - even more by the thought of camping near a railway not run by Railtrack.

Pray could somebody post the "agenda for this weekend, other comitments prevent me from leaving Caerphilly till the Saturday Morning

And will a small arthritic beer drinking terrier be welcome ?

Mind you it will depend on the weather forcast.

Not as many sheep as there used to be round here, John. (and Eric)!!!!
The agenda is very loose, Gareth.
Those arriving Friday will meet at the Institute, where there will be a bar and food, and music and singing after/before/during. Saturday morning is for sightseeing, walking, trips on the train to Welshpool and suchlike. Last year, in the afternoon, we all took turns to strut our stuff, and this year there should be a lot more interest from the locals.
In the evening, the famous Mudcat ceiliegh band foregathers (that is anyone who knows the tunes!) and a good time is had by all.
We charge the neighbours a small entry fee to cover the cost of the hall. Sunday is spent in the pub.
Any more ideas?

Are there any things for children planned? I have the Bratling with me again, and although she's easier to deal with than previous, she is still an unholy terror and goes to bed after me!!! I can bring tons of paper and bits of card with me if there is anyone else willing to do the actual hands on bit (and I'm not talking throats here.... )

Liz, Bratling sounds very funny for a German. A Bratling in German is something like the mincedmeat piece in a burger. So my first thought was to let John do some more butchering... ;-)

Bratling - word of my own invention, being the diminutive of brat - brats are usually a bit older than Phoebe is at the moment.... it's a bit like saying Ich bin eine Berliner then?

The town is quite small. There are only 2 junctions. Look for the one up the hill from the river and on a strange 5 way junction with a chippy in the middle of it.

Noticed on the map mention of Castle Caereinion - is there actually a castle there. We are having to drag the bored 14 year old with us and he loves castles so it could be somewhere to send him .

Mrs. Duck, on the detailed map of Castle Caereinion no castle is shown. I also can't remember to have seen a castle there last year, but I passed the village on the main road below.

Maybe this is even better - send the bored one to the castle, it might take him some time till he finds out that there is no castle... ;-)

Alanww, check your PMs again.

There's definately no castle at Castle Caereinion. There is a healing well in Llanfair Caereinion, but it doesn't work on bored teenagers unless you hold their heads under.
There is a castle at Welshpool and one at Montgomery, a few miles away.
Cheers, Bron.
