01 Sep 01 - 04:35 AM (#539524) Subject: Critical Mass From: Green Man I have a theory. When in a session a fiddle is a fine thing to have and two even better. However when there are three fiddles in a session they seem to reach a critical mass and like the same in fissile material a change happens. They run out of control and usually subject everyone within earshot to an overdose of fiddly diddly. Is there a clever clogs out there who knows how to control (dampen) the chain reaction?? |

I've heard on the concert stage 17 or more fiddlers, and it is quite invigorating. The fiddlers play off each other, and go a lot of extra places you wouldn't expect normally. |

01 Sep 01 - 07:56 AM (#539558) Subject: RE: Help: Critical Mass From: Scabby Douglas The only way I know is to have the session "run" so that it's (say) 2 songs, 2 tunes, turnabout.. But it does happen at sessions. Tends to happen when there are more fiddlers than singers. The trick is to help them realise that the voice is an instrument too, and that just because you're not diddling away at a tune, you might nevertheless be ready to start... Good Luck.... :-)
