03 Sep 01 - 08:46 PM (#541131) Subject: DTADD: English Is Cuh-ray-zee (Josh White Jr.) From: pastorpest The lyrics are in the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings CD entitled "Pete Seeger". Credit is given to Josh white Jr. based on a book "Crazy English" by Richard Lederer. Pete Seeger added the refrain "English is cuy-ray-zee." The notes say to not record or perform on air without permission of the copyright holder, Richard Lederer. I hope it is OK to post them to this thread!
ENGLISH IS CUH-RAY-ZEE
Just a few examples: There is no egg in eggplant,
If the plural of tooth is teeth, shouldn't the plural of booth be beeth?
You can comb through the annals of history, but not just one annal.
Why is it night falls but never breaks and day breaks but never falls?
How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same
You have to marvel at the lunacy of a language in which your house can burn down
Well English was invented by people, not computers
