05 Sep 01 - 12:06 PM (#542540) Subject: What Mudcat 'gig' is this weekend 9/9? From: Mrrzy HELP I have a note in my calendar that "the Mudcat gig is this Sunday" - 9/9 - but I apparently didn't write down any details? So while I'd love to hear what anybody is doing this weekend the real question is WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OR AROUND CHARLOTTESVILLE VA that would have gotten onto my calendar as a Mudcat gig, in quotes? I tried a search first... nothing popped up... Yikes! |

Playing at Pat Troy's Pub in Alexandria starting at around 6:00 pm (It's Grandparent's day - we figured we'd start early) I'm at work and can't remember how to do the clicky but I'll try to do it tonight. Details are in my website which is www.maryfsmith@freeservers.com but some people had trouble with it crashing! If you listen to the Irish radio show on Sunday mornings I think they'll be playing some of my stuff. |

From: Maryrrf I'm playing this Sunday in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside DC and you can get directions at http://www.pattroysirishpub.com You can check out my website to learn a little about the type of music I will be playing: If any mudcatters make it there let me know who you are, I'd like to meet you! Link fixed. --JoeClone |

From: Maryrrf Hmm, I thought I did the clicky thing right, and I guess I did, but the "clicky" for my website turned out to be the last sentence of my post, i.e. "If any mudcatters....." The link does work, although I hope the site doesn't crash on anybody like it did before! |

10 Sep 01 - 11:51 AM (#546295) Subject: RE: Help: What Mudcat 'gig' is this weekend 9/9? From: Maryrrf Well, it went very well. I enjoyed the gig and the audience seemed to enjoy it too. I did a variety of songs ranging from rousing "pub" type songs like "Mick Maguire" and "The Jolly Tinker" to very pensive ones like "The Quiet Land of Erin". One of my favorites, and it was kind of neat to be singing up in DC was "The Four Mary's". It seemed so appropriate, what with all the political scandals that have gone on - to do the song about Mary Queen of Scot's lady in waiting who caused a big scandal by getting pregnant by the Queen's then husband - (Lord Darnley, I think)- then drowned the baby and was hanged. Oh I know there's no historical evidence for it but it's a good story anyway. And the audience loved the song! |

10 Sep 01 - 12:55 PM (#546358) Subject: RE: Help: What Mudcat 'gig' is this weekend 9/9? From: Mrrzy It was great. The boys almost behaved, and I held myself back and only muttered along with the songs I knew until Maryrrf kindly gave the audience permission to sing along... turns out the guy behind me knew all the ones I knew and none of the ones I didn't, he must have the same album collection I had growing up. And her version of The 4 Mary's, one of my alltime faves, was haunting and beautiful. Wish some other area folks had appeared, or at least identified themselves if they appeared... She gifted me with 2 of her CDs for making the drive, even though I had come up to see my Mom anyway, which is great although I forgot to put them in the CD player for the drive home, silly me. Let's do a Virginia area thing next, there are beginning to be bunches of us down here...? |

10 Sep 01 - 02:28 PM (#546458) Subject: RE: Help: What Mudcat 'gig' is this weekend 9/9? From: Maryrrf I think a Virginia get together would be great! Good idea! I remember you said you live in Charlottesville. That might be a good place to think about - it's beautiful and relaxing and there must be some good places there. |
