Sussie: It's too bad your message got truncated. But in case you were looking for "Lady in Love," I checked AMG - The All Music Guide and found that a song by that name was recorded by Megan McDonough, Deborah Sasson, Uriah Heep, Yami Bolo, and Chuck Crane. However, it isn't clear whether these are all the same song, or different songs with the same title.

Click the above link to find out more about the albums or musicians.

Were you looking for "Ned of the Hill" too?

"Ned of the Hill" (not on) is a traditional song, and there are at least 3 versions in DigiTrad. To find them, put [Ned of the Hill] - in brackets - in the DigiTrad Lyrics Seach box and click "Go."

You can also use AMG to find out who recorded it.

Sussie, here is what little I remember of this song,The first 2 verses and the chorus are fairly accurate, I can't recall the rest, I'm sure someone will have the missing lyrics

Ned of the Hill
Oh dark is the evening and silent the hour
Oh who is the minstrel on yonder lone tower
His harp he so tenderly playing with skill
Oh who could it be but young Ned of the Hill

Chorus
Who sings lady love will you come to me now
Will you come and live merrily under the bough
And I'll pillow your head, where soft fairies tread
If you will but wed with young Ned of the hill

Young Ned of the Hill has no castle or hall
No yeomen nor bowmen to come at his call
But one little archer of exquisite skill
Has shot a bright shaft for young Ned of the Hill
Chorus
---------------
--------------
--------------
And young Eileen has gone to young Ned of the hill
Chorus

See also Sussie's other thread on the subject, a little further down the page:  Lyr Req: ned on the hill.  Versions of this song have been posted here a number of times, and there are several in the DT.

This is a much anglised version of this song.

I believe that which you have as a "chorus" is actually the second half of the first verse , the whole song being two verses. That's what fits the melody that I have anyway

here's the last half of last verse

It is hard to escape from this young lady's bower For high is the castle and guarded is the tower But where there's a will there is always a way And young Eilleen is gone with young Ned of the hill

The original song "Eamonn an Chnuic" was in Gaelic and a bit more somber- "Ned" was Edmund Ryan of the Hill, from Tipperary, whose family's lands had been seized by the Cromwellians. He was a member of the "Wild Geese" a band of disenfranchised Catholic men fighting for freedom.Although "Ned" had a reputation as a romantic poet and ladies' man, he met a grisly end. You can read more about him (and lots of other neat stuff) in Donald O' Sullivan's "Songs of the Irish" published in 1960 by Bonanza Books (Crown Publishers)
