From: Barry Finn I don't know if this would be a good idea or not, I guess I thought it would be good but often I am in need of a reality check. I'm hearing about how the rubble is being removed from the disaster site. It's probably an awful task to get rid of it. What if (I don't know anything about Manhattan) the rubble was carted to the tip of Manhattan (if there really is a tip) a dump it right off the end, into the water. After the site has been cleaned up erect a lighthouse (beacon) in to honor the fallen so they never be fogotten & to pay respects to the volunteers that moved mountains in their name & that we never forget they fell & to show the world that we still & will shine thought the fog. Yet, they need to be for a variety of reasons not the least: we can't let terrorists win. Your lighthouse idea is brilliant. Is there a lighthouse society to contact about it? My initial reaction is that we should leave an empty, vacant desert there to remind us "Never again!" And sad but true, we will forget. As in the past, security measures will be instated and gradually abandoned...unless the airports, airlines, and government are committed to funding proper security. Have you ever spoken with the Security people at major airports in the US? Most of them barely make minimum wage. The turnover is constant. They need to PAY trained professionals. |

Does it make sense having buildings with 50,000 people in them anyway? Surely they belong to another time and another technology.

As to the Towers, I say build *one* awesome, towering, hulking mammoth of a building in their place. A building that screams of strength and determination, and that we weren't beaten (not even close). I say do it not in haste, but as fast as can be done with accuracy and safety in mind. And then, I say fly the LARGEST American flag from the top. Something to be seen for miles and miles. That would be my dream. |

From: katlaughing I like the idea, Barry, except for concern about the marinelife, if there is any, I don't know, just a thought. I have thought they should never rebuild there. I thought they should put up some kind of memorial as they did in OK. I think all of the victims' names should be displayed and even their pictures. People will need a place to go to mourn, to touch, to be with one another, to survive. I know some will not agree with me, but to build another office building seems wrong to me not only out of respect for the victims, but also so as not to disturb any residual "vibrations" of those so heinously ripped from life. kat |
