BS: Mudcat inner clique? Who's in it?

Subject: Mudcat inner clique? Who's in it?
From: Deni

Hi All...

I've just seen a refererence to the Mudcat Inner Clique, in another thread. Am I in it? Is Hawker in it? or after a year or more are we still too new.

If not, can I speed up the acceptance process. Is there an initiation? do I have to be upended in a toilet bowl, like at school. Or dragged around by the hair? (it was a rough neighbourhood, you had to grow your hair to make it easier on the draggers.) Can I grease any palms or anything. We all like to feel loved and as if we belong. Especially me!!! Awaiting your verdict with baited breath and tongue firmly in cheek. D

Hi Deni, as far as most of us are concerned there is but one clique at the Mudcat. It includes anyone that is a Mudcatter, member or guest. All are welcome and even though in some cases their opinions are not agreed with they are respected. So that makes you a 'member' of the clique...

Obiviously, someone has tipped Deni off--Well, Deni, it turns out that one of the people here is the 33rd Level, Grand Master Mudcater, and Mudcat is divided into two groups, those who know, and those who think they know--As an initiate, you must take the secret Mudcat oath, given to you by your contact from the Order of Hidden Masters, but after the fifth level of initiation, you learn another, even more secret oath--Scattered through the threads are names that repeat in discussion--some illuminate the path of truth, some lead to the path of error--only the Hidden Masters know, and only they can open the doors for you, but who are the Hidden Masters? And who is the Grand Master? Should you listen to the GUEST, or the Gargoyle?

I think I know the thread you are referring to, Deni. Is it the one where I was accused of being in it? If so, I had a good laugh as well:-) I have never been in any clique, would never wish to be so and would leave instantly if I thought I had slipped into one unknowingly.

Was it Groucho Marx who said "I wouldn't want to join any club that would let people like me in it!"? Well, thats how I feel as well.

The only Mudcat clique that exists is as Banjer described it earlier, or in the minds of some of our more 'reality challenged' members;-)

If you REALLY want to speed up acceptance though a certain ammount of used fivers in a plain brown envelope could held oil the wheels somewhat. But don't ask about the secret hanshake and baring your left breast just yet...

Cheers

I am the guilty party who mentioned the inner clique in Gnome's thread. Well, the sad truth is, if you have to ask, you are not in it.

Perfect place to tell you this, Mick. I have been unable to find homes for my last two kittens - one is named Fred after a predecessor whom he resembles in thought, word, and deed; the other was named Mickey but was unhappy with the title - too wussy. So it has been changed to Big Mick. He has a white ring on his black tail probably for accurate measurement. When I have a chance I will send you a picture.

SHEER NUMBER OF POSTS DENI! That's what it takes....so you'd better get busy!

What does it take to make a "cliquie"? (or cleeky for those who don't like Canajun spelling)

Well, there are certain words and phrases that you can sprinkle into those posts that'll have you knocking on the doors of exalted Cliquedom before you know it.

"Possum". Don't ask me why. There are some things that are simply beyond human understanding, but picture that small furry creature (the animal, NOT it's originator!) in all sorts of embarassing situations....and write, my child, write!

"Kendall". Get into an arguement with him about anything (tell him you think Taylors are for wusses) and keep it going for a few years.

"I'm Leaving"!!! Yup, that's a good'un. Works well even if you were only here for two minutes to begin with! Give any reason you want to for leaving, and I guarantee you'll get a hundred folks begging you to stay (witness "X ED" thread)

Start a "Thought for the day", "Joke of the day" "Diuretic of the day", "Marsupial of the day" thread. Something that will engender a loyal devoted following.

Don't do your line breaks!!! This is playing with fire, but if you've got the guts, go for it. Make Joe Offer interrupt his life at least 12 times a day to fix your poems and he'll either learn to love you, or kick you in the cojones! Either way....you'll be noticed.

Tell Doug R. he's too nice to be a REAL Republican!

Ask Big Mick if he's really as handsome in person as he is in his picture...and NEVER let on that the "cleekies" know he's only 5' 9".

Make out like you actually KNOW who Dave Bullmer is.

Ask MTed to name the "chord" formed by the notes C,D,Eb,F,G.

Ask Katlaughing about the state of liberal politics in Wyoming.

Ask Susan (WSSYGGWWSYW) if she knows the odd spititual.

Ask Gargoyle (preferably before 11pm) whether....ahh nahh, don't bother.

And finally...ask me "What's the best way to play an "F" chord"? Or even better..ask Harpgirl AND me "What's so special 'bout that Leadbelly guy"?

Rick (too weird to be a regular cliquie, but happy to be consigliare if needed)

My question on this subject is: Does having an affiliation with cats help to get you in the inner clique? Especially if your cat affiliation is also tied into music?

If so... My handle is Blackcatter because 7+ years ago I helped start a open-mike night at my Unitarian church. The first one was on Friday the 13th, so the natural name we came up with was the Blackcat Cafe. My "in real life" name is Tom Cook, one of the other co-founders frequently refers to me as TC - which eventually became Top Cat - and eventually morphed into Blackcat(ter)

I doubt I'm in any inner clique - mostly because I come and go around here - Sometimes I don't seem to even check in for several months (but I found the Mudcat over 2 years ago) My problem is that I'm easily distrac

If there is an "Inner Clique", then logically, some or all of us who are not in the "Inner Clique" should form an "Outer Clique".
I propose the following:
(1) We adopt a left-handed secret handshake.
(2) We adopt the Aardvark as our "Outer Clique" Mascot. (Down with possums!)
(3) If any member of the "Outer-Clique" should inadvertently mention the word "POSSUM" he must grip his nose tightly between the thumb & forefinger of the right hand, and hop in a circle (widdershins) three times chanting, "Aardvark Aardvark, this is bloody Aard-vark" in a loud voice, to ward off bad luck.
(4) No members of the "Inner Clique" allowed. (you may be asked to prove your non-membership)

(5) Membership fee is one groat (No not GOAT, GROAT) or equivalent in CSA or Phenoecian currency. (American express? That will do nicely")

If you wish to join the "Outer Clique" please send your membership fee, and proof of non-membership of the "Inner Clique" to Crazy Eddie NOW!

Greetings This is exactly as I thought. You post a serious remark about music and you get about 8 replies. however, you ask a stupid question and it gets 47 and rising, and TOO MUCH WIT to respond to. and yes, the thought originated by talk of Dave the Gnome being a member.

It's the WIT I've been missing around here, lately, and now we're back to an air of normality (albeit temporary)!!!!!!!!

However. wit aside...there is a more sinister aspect to all this... I shivered at the warnings at the start of the thread by McGrath of Harlow and mooman, (part of me actually believes them)and I followed those two VERY spooky links, which said 'read this', and now the whole mudcat thing has taken on a new dimension.

As a firm believer that all Mudcat threads should be music/lyric related, I submit the following in order to bring this one into compliance:

I'm In The Clique
Composer: Todd Rundgren
Album: Runt, 197o

I'm in the clique, I'm in the clique
I'm really slick, I know every trick
And I can get a chick, 'cause I'm in the clique.

Get your greasy hands off the guitar,
Get your slimy seat off the drums,
Go and take a chair in the corner,
And wait until your time comes.
Maybe you're a wheel in your hometown,
Maybe you're the best on the block,
But by the time you make it in New York,
Your axe will be in hock.

Gettin' in the door will cost a fin
Minimum is another three
It takes a year of heavy spending
Before they let you in free.
You may dress like everybody
But there the similarity ends
You need more than a uniform to be
In our little circle of friends.

Maybe I could give you advice
But what can I say to you?
Some people get it together
And some people never do.
Just try and get your foot in the door
And maybe, with luck, you may
Also be in a position to look
Down your nose on somebody someday.

Are you blonde? No one who is not blonde is allowed into any IC, that's the law. This is not Lake Wobegon, people, where all the women are strong. This is Inner Clique, where all the women (and I assume the men, but I went to girls' schools so how do I know) must be blonde. At least all the Amurrikin members. Furriners can have any color hair they want cuz they get in on a special "exotic" pass.

I have not blonde hair. My hair goes from jet black to bright red, I know not why. I put it down to walking on the misty Devon moors. i do notice that people are reserved when I've got black hair, nervous when I've got red. I did go blonde for a while years ago, and was perceived as approachable!, friendly (which I am) and fanciable.(?) Well I couldn't have all that approval, so I prompty changed back.

I know there's an inner clique, and I'll tell you how to spot 'em. They're the ones who get their birthdays announced in a new thread! They'll tell you you have to put your DOB on the Mudcatters' personal details list, but that's just a smokescreen: you won't get your own birthday thread unless you're in the inner clique, even if you can do the blue cliquey. Not that I mind, or anything, I mean, the whole birthday thing is over-rated if you ask me. Not that anyone does. Anyway, it was only the Big Five-Oh, nothing to get worked up about ...

Besidfes, I wouldn't want to belong to any group that had people like me as members. Ha! Put that in your pipes and smoke it, you--you-sheep!!

It has come to our attention that you are an executive member of the organization known as the Mudcat Inner Clique. It has further been brought to our attention that said organization has been claiming to be exempt from taxes under the statute for non-profit organizations, 401 (c) 3.

However, it is my duty to point out that this status becomes forfeit in the event that any non-profit organization is found to be in violation of the Federal "Compassion for All Life Forms and Politically Correct Thought Standards for Federally Recognized Not For Profit Organizations Act" of 2000, which was signed into law by President Wm Jefferson Clinton at 11:59 PM on his last day of office.

It has further come to our attention that the Mudcat Inner Clique has been using other life forms -- specifically civets and opossums -- for non-indigenous purposes and in unnatural ways. If this practice is confirmed, be advised that your non-profit status for the Mudcat Inner Clique will be forfeit retroactively, with back taxes on past revenues payable back to 1998.

In this event you will be sent a bill for the amount requireed to satisfy the resultant tax lien. Our office estimates the full due amount including thirty-five per cent (35%) penalty will total approximately $13.47.

Please advise that your organization is prepared to pay this amount within thirty (30) days of receiving such a bill. If we do not receive written assurance to this effect from your office within the next eleven working days, please be advised the matter will be forgotten in a haze of bureaucratic mismanagement and ineptitude.

Did you really want a name for that chord, Rick? It was just an example, right?

Because if you did, first, it depends on what key you are playing in, and then, it also depends on whether there is a B or a Bb in the melody--the thing is that it is a compound chord, or, the way you have presented it, a partial compound chord--the critical thing may also be the inversion that you use, and, whether it is intended to be sounded simultanously, sequentially, or antiphonally-and then, at least in terms of naming, there is that whole question that Hindemith raised having to do with the fact that inversions are not really equivalent, because they each speak differently for the simple reason that, depending on which notes are in the low range, there could be whole different set of harmonics. so, depending on that the notes are, there could be a whole "phantom chord" that is the strongest voice, even though it is only hinted at in the notes that are sounded--

Steve, we of the Inner Clique have been given orders by the Chief Thread Diddler, one Joe Offer, that the birthday threads are just ridiculous becasue they all say the same thing over and over.

Since then, I have personally tried to heed Father Joebro's advice. I mean we haven't stopped the threads entirely, but there do seem to be a few less....but on all the birthday threads I have made a PERSONAL effort to assure that they DO NOT say the same things over and over. I do this because I really want Joe to like me! Therefore, if we are to consider this your birthday thread, and I notice that folks are saying the same things over and over to you......"Happy Birthday Steve"......It is incumbent on me, as per what Joe said, to be positive that not everyone says the same thing.

KISS MY ASS YOU FOCKER

Spaw - the big thing about Birthdays is that it is TRADITIONAL to all say the same thing. E.g.
Happy Birthday to you! (1 - first line)
Happy Birthday to you! (2 - first line again)
Happy Birthday (3 - half of first line repeated) Dear Steve (4 and note the clever bit - you put in the name of the person whose birthday it is)
Happy Birthday to you! (5 - first line reprised)

I admit that there is nothing very clever about this, but it is common practice in most of the English speaking world!
Perhaps Joe should institute a rolling programme of 52 threads, dated for each week of the year, where we can post felicitations to all those people who become older buggers during those seven days? That way we would only clog up a fraction of the server space that we sometimes do now!
p.s. If this is posting number 100 on this thread, do I get the special prize of free membership to the Inner Clique????

Ted and Jeri. I shoulda knowed!!

Even when you write ten "clique jokes" in a row......there ain't no such thing as a "joke chord"!

At a teaching festival (The Woods Music and Dance Camp) a few years ago, one of the campers (in a frisky mood, I thought) challenged me to name the chord he was playing. It sounded awful, but being an amiable sort I went through the "head math" and came up with a plausible answer complete with sharp this, and flat that. A couple of minutes later I took this person's guitar to explain a little fingerpicking pattern.....and discovered that they had no idea how to TUNE the damn thing! With proper tuning their "bizarre" chord became a D7th!

But I digree....this is a "clique" thread.

I always thought that the REAL Mudcat clique were the ones who'd showered NEKKID with each other!

Rick,

Jeri and I are both having a bit of musical fun with you--me with a bit of nearly nonsensical jargon, and Jeri with some enharmonic naming fun--the notes in her "standard" D#maj7 6/9 chord would be "D# F## A# B# C## E# " which are the enharmonic equivalent of C D Eb F G Bb --a messy example that they sometimes use in music notation classes . Just shows how far we'll go to make a joke!

Incidentally, if you get one of your students to whack away on that chord, you can improvise, using an Eb major scale, and it sounds just dandy if you move down to the relative *AEOLIAN MODE*(You forgot to mention PeterT!)

Well I know one thing, if a thread like this is up to 130 posts before you find it, YOU AREN'T IN THE CLIQUE!

***EVERYONE** is cliqueless in Cleveland...I think there's a local ordinance against it.

Don't worry about it Jack......Chieef Prostetnic Catter Spaw says, "YOU'RE IN!!!" Say Jack, you live in Atlanta don't you? Well Marty oughta' be moving your way soon. Eventually, everybody in Cleveland moves to Atlanta.........

AND MARTY......Here's one for YOU:

There's a red moon rising
On the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake

There's a red moon rising
ON the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake

There's an oil barge winding
Down the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake

There's an oil barge winding
Down the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake

Cleveland, city of light, city of magic
Cleveland, city of light, you're calling me
Cleveland, even now I can remember
'Cause the Cuyahoga River
Goes smokin' through my dreams

Burn on, big river, burn on
Burn on, big river, burn on
Now the Lord can make you tumble
And the Lord can make you turn
And the Lord can make you overflow
But the Lord can't make you burn

Burn on, big river, burn on
Burn on, big river, burn on

"BURN ON"...........by Randy Newman

Hi All

135 dopey, daft, insane, lighthearted, amusing, crazy, termite-laden messages now and I think I've 'met' enough members of the inner and outer mudcat clique to be going along with. Steve Parkes has jumped in to my attention and I now see him as a real person, that's if any of us are real. (See earliest couple of messages.) Shall we abandon this thread, or once in motion is it unstoppable?

I like Hawker's idea of starting a thread on school initiation ceremonies. i have a feeling we'll all turn out to have been severly initiated, which explains the way we are now.

Aargh gurgle, gurgle, gurgle.

Surely you mean "ockle, cockle, ockle, cockle", Deni? Yes, I'm real enough, and I have the offspring to prove it! Of course, if you've seen the photo, you might not be so sure ...
