ADD: Precious Friend (Pete Seeger)

Subject: Buddhists and "Precious Friend You Will Be There"
From: heartlandsangha@hotmail.com

There is a Buddhist event in May. I it would be fun to sing (with my Buddhist Sangha group) the song Precious Freind You Will Be There by Pete Seeger.

I picked up my guitar today for the first time in 15 years. Boy, I need practice.

I also need your help. I went to Carl Fishers (the big sheet music store here in Chicago) and they didn't have the sheet music to Pete Seeger's "Precious Friend." It's been so long that I can't wing it In the old days I could listen to a song and make the best of it. It's not the old days. I need:

1. Lyrics--if anyone knows where I can get them.

2. sheet music--if anyone knows where I can get them.

It's in a Pete Seeger book from Sing Out! called "Where Have All the Flowers Gone." The number for telephone orders is 1-888-SING-OUT; but they only take orders during Eastern Standard Time business hours, so you'll have to wait until the morning or get it from Amazon or something. Lyrics and chords are also in the "Rise Up Singing" songbook. Come back here in an hour, and I'll have the lyrics and tune posted.

From: Joe, I'm brand new to this

please read my previous post.

I didn't realize I needed to fill out the "From" until I posted and I noticed a blank that made it look as if it wasn't worth clicking on.

Words and Music by Pete Seeger

Just when I thought
All was lost, you changed my mind.
You gave me hope (not just the old soft soap)
You showed that we could learn to share in time
(you and me and Rockefeller)
I'll keep pluggin' on,
Your face will shine through all our tears.
And when we sing another little victory song,
Precious Friend, you will be there.
Singing in harmony,
Precious Friend, you will be there.

This is another cryptic ABC translation, since Alan's program doesn't like lots of rests and weird tempo changes. Can't say that I blame it. I have as much trouble singing those complicated tempos as the program has translating it. I really like the song and sing along with the recording all the time - but so far, I haven't been successful leading it. Cynthia, I'll e-mail you a MIDI of the song. If you stick around a while, we'll teach you to use Alan's miditxt program so you can post tunes, too.
