Oh hear them ring

"oh hear them ring, those merry, merry Christmas bells . . . " that's part of the chorus and I know the rest, plus two verses. What I'm really interested in is where this song comes from. The guy who taught me learned from his mother back in the 30's -- and she didn't know where she learned it or wasn't saying. Anyone out there know this one? Peace, s.j.

Stonejohn, would you give us the rest of the song? I don't recollect it as such. Perhaps with more someone can recognize it.

Well, I browsed about a hundred spirituals sites today to harvest good bookmarks, and it sounds like one I may have run across, but God only knows when I will find it again! I'll check indices and see if it's easy to find... but stick around a bit-- this could take awhile if no one else knows it.

sorry, WYSIWYG, it was neither of those. George, the whole song (as I know it) goes: 1- Those Christmas bells are ringing, it's Christmas time again; With happy voices singing, "Sweet Peace good-will to men!" (chorus:) Oh hear them ring, those merry, merry Christmas bells; Those merry, merry bells, the merry, merry bells; The ringing of the Christmas bells. 2- They the joyous story of Christ the savior's birth; And how the King Of Glory once ruled upon the earth.

That's what I know of it. The tune is upbeat, about 120 beats to the minute, at least they way we do it. Maybe that'll help?
