Sad news that Simon Knight, box player, well known and much respected through England and Ireland for his very fine playing for the sets, and dances, died Thurday morning. Funeral will be held at St. Cuthberts, Wells, Somerset on Friday 5th October at 12.15. All friends welcome.
Our thoughts and love to Carol, Dom, Maddy, Val, Andrew, and Patrick,
....Wes, Vanessa, and family.

I knew Simon as an occasional visitor to Bangor, N Wales - mostly for the Festival and yes he was a fine box player - quite a talented family from what I remember.

I am very sorry to hear this news and my sympathy goes out to the family.

my first meeting with Simon was after leaving Wells TIC without local folk info. Simon was busking and we chatted - I got all the info I could handle. Wonderful melodeon playing, wasted on the general public.

I new Simon was very ill. Terribly upset to hear of his demise. He will be missed everywhere including Ballyvaughan in February and of course Bangor.

Sympathies to the entire family.

I remember Simon from the Porter Butt session in Bath. Learned loads of tunes from him, and really admired his playing. Especially remember the superb concert he did with Brian Owens in Clifton Cathedral back in 1999. A true musician and gentleman who will be missed.

I'd only just met Simon at a session in Bristol and again in Sidmouth.

It's a great shame.

All my best to his family.

I moved to Wells in 1986, a non-musician in those days. I often saw Simon playing in Penniless Porch. Hear hear to his playing being wasted on the public.

He played at the birthday party of a colleague, and I recall him now, sitting outside the tiny cottage on Mendip, mid winter, playing to and for himself, as the guests huddled inside. He played a lot of dances roundabout, and sometimes came to the Hunters, but I think us apprentice accordionists scared him off!

My colleague told me Simon was a big cheese in Fleet Street backaways, but chucked it in to play the music he loved.

Great guy.

Skipjack

ps Hoping the wake is Tuesday 10th, as it's the only night I can make it from Yorkshire.

A chairde, I'm just back from Ireland and found the sad news tonight about Simon. Like you all, I'm devastated that we've all lost such a beautiful gift to humanity, let alone music, and his lovely family. Deep and fondest regards to all the family, and friends. Simon, thank you for everything. May you rest in peace. My love and peace to all,

Brianxxx
