Incidentally, in my initial excitement at the clicky thing I forgot to mention the name of the pub the Open Door's held at which is the Bull's Head on Oldham Road. Silly me! |

07 Oct 01 - 08:17 PM (#567098) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: Bernard Well, folks, what a great little club!! Went there for the first time this evening (Sunday Oct 7th) and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! A really genuine, friendly atmosphere - I felt as though I'd been going there for years after the first ten minutes - given my unstable mental state over the past couple of years, that's praise indeed... Thanks, Harry, for posting this thread - the 'Open Door' is a club with a very strong future, and I'll be a regular, that's for sure! If you haven't been, yet, get down there and find out what you are missing!! It's not far from Junction 21 of the M60 - at the top of the slip road turn right along Broadway, and right again at Oldham road (A62) - it's slap bang on the Failsworth/Newton Heath border... See you there?! |
07 Oct 01 - 08:20 PM (#567100) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: John Routledge Thanks Bernard - I was 90% going - Now 100%!! Cheers John |

If he's not up to it, I might come by myself. Getting withdrawal symptoms- it's 4 days since I had a sing! Sue vG |
20 Oct 01 - 06:30 PM (#576470) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: Linda Kelly And was the gorgeous Jez still gorgeous-somebody needs to give the mudcat women a report otherwise our hormone levels may get out of hand! Did he sing his new songs In my Trade is absolutely phenomenal. Geordie please do my drooling for me by all means, just clear up the mess afterwards! |
20 Oct 01 - 07:56 PM (#576517) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: John Routledge I am not realy qualified to report on Jez Lowe being a mere male but I did buy his double CD. He was superb doing a mixture of old and new but not New Trade. I was close enough to get some reflected glory. Told him Linda Kelly thought he was wonderful and if his CD was not at least as wonderful I wanted my money back - We N Easterners speak the same language. Cheers John |
21 Oct 01 - 05:44 AM (#576663) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: Linda Kelly It's a wonderful album -some of those songs will really suit your voice John. |
21 Oct 01 - 12:46 PM (#576784) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: GUEST,HelenJ Harry, you and your friends are to be congratulated on the show you set up yesterday (Saturday.) Yvonne and self really had a good time and are considering setting up 'The Open Door Appreciation Society'! What exceptional talent flows through those doors. Your pal who sported jazzy ties (two of them) is a cracking performer with voice and 'Erica'. He has now two devoted groupies over here and we don't even know his name. The generous hospitality you extended was kindly received and we do hope to see you again, either at the Railway or on your home ground. The memory of all those really powerful and expressive voices will remain with us for many a year. Altogether lovely, HelenJ. P.S. Sent message earlier but it hasn't registered ho - hum. |
21 Oct 01 - 01:46 PM (#576799) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: GUEST,Yvonne Harry I second every word of Helen's. Wonderful day and Jez Lowe is to die for!!!!! Must add a word to Geordie Broon--thanks for the help and encouragement John. It is very much appreciated. Cheers all Yvonne |
21 Oct 01 - 02:23 PM (#576813) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: Noreen Aaaah- I missed the lovely Jez *sniff*. Glad all went well- I spent all w/e sorting out a new car and phenomenal insurance quotes instead. Hope to be back in circulation soon- it was a bit far to walk to Failsworth.. I'm smiling again, Harry! :0) |
21 Oct 01 - 04:23 PM (#576893) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: John Routledge Just got back from Failsworth. Excellent day. Slightly laid back version of yesterday. Joan from Wigan as usual did a super job doing two spots aftr the first singaround. John Brindley followed with a very varied performance from traditional ballads to virtuoso guitar AND fiddle to Bob Dylan. Would be happy to see again. Thanks to all the organisers for a great do. John |
21 Oct 01 - 08:32 PM (#577074) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: 8_Pints Thanks for the really warm welcome and superbly organised event! It was great to put more faces to cookies! Adding to what GB has already said, Pete Coe was brilliant in the evening slot - singing a superb mixture of songs and tunes. How does he sing, play banjo or bazouki and dance AT THE SAME TIME!!! We're really sad that we weren't there on Saturday, it sounds like we missed a treat. Thanks again, Sue vG PS Bob is still doing a lop-sided hamster impression, if anything his face is even more swollen, he's off to the dentist in the morning! PPS Ickle, I don't think I wore anything out of your song book or sang any of your clothes, mind you that weathered corduroy dress sounds like a cue for a song! |
21 Oct 01 - 10:49 PM (#577135) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: Bernard Bloody 'ell! It were a bit good, weren't it!?! I'm ever so slightly tired, now...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |

Helen and Yvonne's melodeon player with the interesting range of ties is called Phil Harding and I'll let him know he's got a fan club! Hope to see you all soon...and I'm so pleased Noreen's got her smile back! Sue...hope Bob's feeling better soon. |

22 Oct 01 - 07:03 PM (#577667) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: 8_Pints Harry, I used to use the phrase "I'm sorry, people don't speak to me like that, I'm a very nice person!" when I was being abused as a teacher. (Usually obnoxious parents) I found that it usually took the wind out of angry people 'cos there isn't really an answer, is there? It sort of became my catch phrase and other staff would say it as a joke. Thank you for reminding me! Sue vG |
23 Oct 01 - 03:10 PM (#578253) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: Joan from Wigan Thank you for the kind words, John, I really enjoyed myself, and it was lovely to see so many friends I've not seen for a while, and meet some new ones. I was sorry to have to leave early, but the trains don't run at convenient times from Failsworth to Wigan (or for that matter from anywhere to anywhere, but that's another story...). Top marks to Pauline and her team for organising a very enjoyable weekend, and here's hoping there'll be many more! Joan |
23 Oct 01 - 03:23 PM (#578259) Subject: RE: Mini-Extravaganza, Failsworth, Mancheste From: Harry Basnett I didn't mention Joan in my Mudcatters' roll call did I? I hang my head in shame...apart from doing a wonderful set herself, Joan was also put to work accompanying Jon Brindley on one of his fiddle marathons! I think another weekend extravaganza may be in the pipeline for May 2002....watch this space! Harry. |
