02 Oct 01 - 01:26 PM (#563507) Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Is Just All Right With Me From: mousethief all traditional music was once new Uh-oh! Now you've done it! You've called down the wrath of the folk purists on your head! Didn't you know that all folk music oozed up out of the ground? No wait, it dropped down from the sky with the rain. Yeah, that's the ticket. At any rate it isn't written. It just happens. We're kind of vague on the details of how, that's all. But we know it's communal, that's for sure. No one person could write a song and have it pass into the folk stream. That just doesn't happen. Nope. Never. Unh-uh. But all silliness aside, welcome aboard, and I heartily agree with you on all your points! Alex |

02 Oct 01 - 01:39 PM (#563521) Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Is Just All Right With Me From: Rick Fielding "All traditional music was once new" I remember having a distinguished English songwriter on my radio show a couple of years ago, who was talking about being treated with contempt by a Folk Club booker because he wasn't TRADITIONAL enough. "My gawd, SOMEBODY wrote the damn songs 400 years ago, they didn't emerge from under a rock. If I have to wait another few hundred years to be able to sing my own songs in a folk club I'll starve to death"! Rick |

02 Oct 01 - 01:49 PM (#563533) Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Is Just All Right With Me From: Paul from Hull GOT to post to this Thread, as I've tried to avoid doing so to the 'negative'one....Like Guest, Genie, I also "discovered Mudcat about 4 months ago and have become an addict"....& agree with just about everything he/she (sorry Genie, that I don't know) said. Its hard to imagine that the Terrorist Attacks WOULDNT spark a lot of Threads.... some of which have been MUSIC ones anyhow... I'm guessing though that thats not the 'be-all-&-end-all' of what is being complained about, but I dont feel that the 'BS' threads 'overwhelm' the musical stuff, & dont honestly feel it would if the Forum was in anything other than this kind of Thread format anyway. Well, not sure what point I'm trying to make here, so I'll stop rambling & say... Long Live MUDCAT! |

02 Oct 01 - 01:50 PM (#563535) Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Is Just All Right With Me From: GUEST,Kim C no cookie All this hubbub reminds me of the little old lady who called the police complaining of a naked man behind her house. When the policeman arrived, he looked out the window. "I don't see anything, ma'am," he said. "Why, you can if you stand up on this chair and look through the binoculars!" Some people aren't satisfied unless they have something to complain about. So everybody take a chill, huh? I have got a lot of good information off this site, plus the oppportunity to get a few laffs once in awhile. Anybody who has an issue with that can bite me. And Alex, folk music is made of green cheese. The man in the moon told me so. :-) |

02 Oct 01 - 02:15 PM (#563560) Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Is Just All Right With Me From: catspaw49 Not to worry Don...This thread is simply the predictable "Rah-Rah" thread that follows every "Hiss-Boo" thread, even if the Hissboo is sorta' okay. The prdictability of both types bothers some, but I find it reassuring............the more things change, the more they stay the same. Ya' know, I'm not as active now as I have been at times. I may get that way again or I may fade away entirely.......Who cares? The 'Cat will be what it is and what we make it........Not individually, but collectively. How we take that "collective" is what affects our attitudes and those that wish to mold the 'Cat the way they want it will always be carping and moaning. Spaw |

02 Oct 01 - 07:29 PM (#563782) Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Is Just All Right With Me From: John J at home The Mudcat's right enough for me; I wouldn't want to change it other than allowing it's natural evolution. That's progress. Mudcat has taught me loads, made me some very good and dear friends, made me laugh, made me cry, made me scream in anger and frustration. It's just perfect. (Well, excluding the claim that all traditional music was once new. I was taught it arrived from outer space some two million years ago in Nevada and was dug up by persons unknown just under two million years later ...) |

02 Oct 01 - 09:05 PM (#563854) Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Is Just All Right With Me From: GUEST,Genie Good to hear from other catters on this. The only thing I've found "not all right" is that sometimes -- like this morning -- I log on (reset my cookie) and am not recognized as a member. (Note the unexplained "Guest" by my name at the top of this thread.) I'm not mentioning this here to change the direction of people's comments -- only to answer the question that may have occurred to some folks, namely, that if I like Mudcat so much, why am I still a "guest." I'm not. Genie |

02 Oct 01 - 09:38 PM (#563877) Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Is Just All Right With Me From: wysiwyg Genie, you asked me how to trace threads. Look between the last post in a thread, and the empty text box where you compose your post-- see "Add Thread to Tracer"? Click that, and it puts a bookmark of the thread on your personal page. Works when you are signed in. ~S~ |
