Not sure what happened there, have tried to post this once, apologies if this is a repost.

Watched a very moving documentary on the Italian campaign, from the last time we got ourselves into a global conflict.

Heroics and dignity on both sides.

I came looking for "The D-Day Dodgers", the lyrics are in archive. Does anyone have the chords? The tune is Lili Marlene.

Thanks for that. It'll mean a bit now, if I hadn't seen the documentary and seen what they went through I wouldn't have got the irony I'm afraid.

To Guest,Roger. Try a search on Google using "D-Day Dodgers". This will give a list and the second site on the list ie. Acronet has the chords. Worth trying.

(actually, this is Ferrara...) just a reminiscence....

My dad was born in Italy, came to the U.S. when he was 12. He was drafted in 1943, when he was 38, a bit old for army life; and married with 2 small kids. Boot camp in New Jersey in winter: he came down with pneumonia and was too sick to be moved when his unit shipped out. He said they were in the Anzio landing and suffered terrible casualties.... Always think of those men when Anzio is mentioned, or when I hear this song.... Dad finished the war in California, in the Signal Corps outfit that broke the main Japanese code. The wife and kids stayed in D.C. He never ever took us camping.... Said that he got enough camping in the Army to last him a lifetime.

You might like to include this verse, not in the DT version.

I don't sing the Lady Astor verse. I think it makes more of an impact to go straight from the jokey verses to the final verse. A brief intro can set the context.

I got hold of a MIDI file of Lili Marlene and ran it through my program 'MIDI Chords' to get the following (edited a bit because of the HTML format).
Each symbol represents one beat in the bar. I added some of the words by hand to indicate how they fit. Hope this helps

May I offer this slight alternative? I think that A7 works better than Db.
