Chords Req: D-Day Dodgers / Lili Marlene

Not sure what happened there, have tried to post this once, apologies if this is a repost.

Watched a very moving documentary on the Italian campaign, from the last time we got ourselves into a global conflict.

Heroics and dignity on both sides.

I came looking for "The D-Day Dodgers", the lyrics are in archive. Does anyone have the chords? The tune is Lili Marlene.

Many thanks

Roger

Thanks for that. It'll mean a bit now, if I hadn't seen the documentary and seen what they went through I wouldn't have got the irony I'm afraid.

To Guest,Roger. Try a search on Google using "D-Day Dodgers". This will give a list and the second site on the list ie. Acronet has the chords. Worth trying.

(actually, this is Ferrara...) just a reminiscence....

My dad was born in Italy, came to the U.S. when he was 12. He was drafted in 1943, when he was 38, a bit old for army life; and married with 2 small kids. Boot camp in New Jersey in winter: he came down with pneumonia and was too sick to be moved when his unit shipped out. He said they were in the Anzio landing and suffered terrible casualties.... Always think of those men when Anzio is mentioned, or when I hear this song.... Dad finished the war in California, in the Signal Corps outfit that broke the main Japanese code. The wife and kids stayed in D.C. He never ever took us camping.... Said that he got enough camping in the Army to last him a lifetime.

You might like to include this verse, not in the DT version.
When we went to Florence we had a lovely time,
We ran a bus to Rimini right through the Gothic Line,
Next to Bolognia we will go,
In the afternoon we'll cross the Po,
We are...

I don't sing the Lady Astor verse. I think it makes more of an impact to go straight from the jokey verses to the final verse. A brief intro can set the context.
Just for the ride,
Keith.

I got hold of a MIDI file of Lili Marlene and ran it through my program 'MIDI Chords' to get the following (edited a bit because of the HTML format).
Each symbol represents one beat in the bar. I added some of the words by hand to indicate how they fit. Hope this helps

Key:
= means repeat the previous chord (x)
means just the note x by itself, no chord

Bar
1 | C = = = | Outside the barracks
2 | G7 = G G7 | by the corner light
3 | G7 = = = | Darling, I remember how
4 | G (G) C = | I'd wait for you at night

5 | F = (F) F | There we'd create
6 | (C) C Cmaj7 Am7 | a world for two
7 | (G) G7 (G) G7 | I'd wait for you
8 | (C) C = = | the whole night through

9 | G7 = = = |
10 | C = = (Db) |
11 | (G) = G7 = |
12 | C = = = |

13 | (G) G7 = = |
14 | C = = (Db) |
15 | (G) G7 G G7 |
16 | C = = = |

May I offer this slight alternative? I think that A7 works better than Db.

Bar
1 | C = = = | Underneath the lantern
2 | G7 = G G7 | by the barrack gate,
3 | G7 = = = | Darling I remember
4 | G (G) C = |the way you used to wait

5 | F = (F) F | 'Twas there that you whispered
6 | (C) C Cmaj7 Am7 | tenderly,
7 | (G) G7 (G) G7 | That you lov'd me,
8 | (C) C = = | you'd always be,

9 | G7 = = = | My Lilli of
10 | C = = A7 | the lamplight
11 | (G) = G7 = | my own Lilli
12 | C = = = | Marlene.

Here's a better sounding set of chords to the tune.

FANNY BY GASLIGHT

D              F#m              Em               A
Doun in Sauchiehall Street, standin' in a close,
Em            A                       D
Listenin' tae a Yankee talkin' through his nose;
G        A          D              F#m              Em         A         D                  F#m
He says tae me, "I'll see ye hame", "Oh no", says I, "I'll get a bad name",
Em           A        D F#m        Em       A              D
They call me Fanny by gaslight, but Fanny's no ma name.

I took him tae the Palais, I thought he'd like tae dance,
But he turned and said "Now Fanny, let's you an' I romance".
I said tae him "If it's a' the same, I'll sit an' play the waitin' game",
They call me Fanny by gaslight, but Fanny's no ma name.

Me Faither an' me Mither made him welcome as could be;
Me Faither said nae ither boy wis good enough for me;
He said he liked the Yankee's name, but called him "Jimmy" just the same;
They call me Fanny by gaslight, but Fanny's no ma name.

Nine month's come December, I'll remember it wi' pride;
I became a member as a Yankee GI bride;
In the New York night I walk the same, while my husband hides in a nearby lane.
They call me Fanny by gaslight, but Fanny's no ma name.

Can someone please post the German ukulele chords of this song? I'd love to play it.
Thanks!
