Could this be a mudcat record? I'm out to rehearsal in an hour and someone has just called and asked "Off that internet thingy could you find a song by Dougie McClaine (that's a phonetic spelling) where the chorus goes "......rescue me " I've tried digitrad and it's none of those..

Help?

Hille x

Hille, give me fifteen minutes with my tape recorder, and make sure to check here before you leave. This may be my one and only chance at a Mudcat miracle :).

GUEST, curse your evil genius! :)

Actually with his silly Scottish accent, I didn't have all the words right anyway. In the the last verse I heard a somewhat cryptic "This bar's our dyke", and I would never had figured out "sair work's nae easy."

Have fun, Hille, and if you do any more Dougie McClean take a look at Ready for the Storm - it's my favourite of his stuff.

Dear Marion and Guest,

You are a couple of stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was that then - about 40 minutes max (I couldn't get back in before the server was jammed)

Thank you - flying out of the door now as we speak!

Love, and big hugs

HIlle xx :) :)

Marion and Guest:

Just a Post script to that - what a fabulous song (lyric-wise it looked rather unpreposessing), but musically I thought it was gorgeous - gonna try doing some Paul Brady-ish harmonies on it.

Thanks for all you help! Hille xx

Here it is, copied from the official Dougie MacLean site:

RESCUE ME
(Dougie MacLean)

Old layers of time have buried the ways that the others have grown
And though sturdy and strong his eyes open wide with each new unknown
And O it's for the earth that he screams in the night
He's a servant of the seasons and the morning's early light
But the troubled one he says

CHORUS: Rescue me he says rescue me
On this mountain's the only place I can see clearly
Rescue me he says rescue me
On this mountain's the only place I can see clearly
He says rescue me

And see these guilty hands that envenom the soil and take the like from his fields
But now these book-reddened eyes have discovered the truth and what it conceals
And O it's for the earth etc. CHORUS

And so the plough it will turn and our hearts they will burn for sair works nae easy
But O this circle stone and this buzzard dyke and this great unknown it goes on and on into the distance of time
And O it's for the earth that we scream in the night
We're servants of the seasons and the mornings early light
But the troubled ones they say, CHORUS
