It's the 2nd worse thing I've seen done to a guitar... The worst was that Gibson (?) that was all X-tianed up... Mother of pearl all over it... and scenes from the frigg'n bible painted on it back and front...

It was absolutely uglier than anything I've ever left in a steaming heap behind me...

No appreciation for fine art Clint?

On the Daisy site, click on Product, then Heartbreaker Artist, then click the picture for a blowup. Just think of the great music you could make if you had the budget to buy that baby!

And that powder pink Daisy acoustic, makes those Larrivees and Martins look like so much firewood. You could at least roll a good quality latex on the Larrivees and Martins to cover up their naked woody bodies.

I remember seeing those at Elderly. When Les Paul and Leo Fender realised that solid-body guitars could be any shape, I don't know if they realised what they were bringing on the world. Daisy guitars, flying-V's, and Prince's ego-monuments... urgh. As Dilbert said, "It's like nuclear power, it can be used for good or evil. And you don't want to get any on you."

From: John Hardly

Dear Mr Hardly,

I have heard through the internet grapevine that you are soliciting helpful hints for guitar lovers. Have I got one for you!

My son Jimmy came home last week with an awful eyesore of a guitar that he said was built way back in the 1930's. Well that poor guitar had certainly seen better days---it looked as though it had been through a war!

I'm sure that, back when it was a decent guitar and worth something it might have been quite attractive, though certainly a bit gaudier than a good Lutheran such as myself would like---what with that pearl-like trim ALL THE WAY AROUND THE TOP AND SOUND HOLE! My!

Anyway, yes, I was embarrassed for my Jimmy. But he seemed so proud that I kept my little mouth zipped tightly and just said "That's nice, Jimmy." Seems Jimmy has wanted a guitar by this Mr Martin fellow for more than 30 years now!

Well, when Jimmy went to bed, I carefully sneeked into his room and got the guitar. I quietly took it down to my workshop---I'm a tole painter you see. I do folk tole and Norwegian rosemaling.

Well you should have seen that sorry old guitar when I got done with it! One base coat of powder blue Krylon, and flowers all around the sound hole and up and down the neck. (I did a beautiful job if I do say so myself! Sorry, Lord)

So, in short, you too can make an old guitar BETTER THAN NEW again! Just a little carefully applied paint---remember to keep that spray can moving….don't want any drips!---and you too can have the guitar of your dreams!

Sincerely,

Mrs Marv Olsen

Ps. I WISH you could have seen the look of surprise on my little Jimmy's face when he awoke the next morning!

well, all i have to say is, a 13 year old girl may be more excited by an ugly daisy guitar than a plain old plywood yamaha. then she would spend all her teen years getting chops, confidence, and let us all hope, taste. plenty of time for martins later.

i waited till i was 24 to get a guitar -- too embarrassed to try when i was young. a big big regret.

i'd buy one for my niece.

an aside: when building my acoustic, the luthier (an old friend) told me he was making it "look like me." by gum, he did -- blonde with hips -- pretty darn girly.

I always thought Martin 000s were sexy as well.

I'm surprised to discover that WyoWoman could be made better. Although I prefer women with dark hair and dark eyes, I think a Martin is a shallow immitation of a blonde with hips.

Is this thread about the boys finding a rare opportunity to snicker at girls' guitars. I still don't see great beauty in Gibson SGs. Guys have played thousands of them for years without getting laughs from the girls.

Well, I have seen uglier guitars than the Daisyrock Heartbreaker. That one Kurt Cobain designed is pretty awful, and I never liked the angular, vicious looking ones favoured by heavy metal bands. But...the daisy-shaped one has gotta be the ugliest guitar body design ever! Looks good on a flower, terrible on a guitar.

Man, I'd get beat up if I got caught playing one of those. I'd take an SG any day. Of course, I'm not an electric player. But a Kirk Sand hallow body always sounds nice (and out of my price range).

That's an interesting topic LH. Guitars never say no when you want to play them. Though if we take this further, I couldn't imagine what a simple string change is going to turn into (not to mention the price of a decent guitar, ouch!).

Erica, I can't really add anything about how women get treated in music stores as I'm not a women and don't work in a music store. But if you're ever in Seattle, you might want to try Dusty Strings. They always seem to treat everybody fairly. Though if there is any problems, just PM John P. He's been there a while I believe.

I may be wrong, but I'd guess the "girl guitars" are made by Samick in Korea. Correct me if I'm wrong. I think all their guitars are butt ugly, and woud be difficult to hold sitting down. Pre-teen girls may well flock to these guitars. Very clever marketing ploy. But I think a lot of the girls buying these alleged guitars will eventually learn out what guitars are all about, and figure out on their own that they need to buy a decent guitar. There is hope for the future. Thanks, BlueJay

Again we have a slur of the "girl guitars" because they are made by Samick when most guitars and amps sold are made by Samick. Why aren't the boys criticized for buying Samick? Why can't we accept girls playing electric guitars?

One of the major musical instrument retailers in the U.S. advertised Samick amps on their web site by saying that most of the other amps they sell are Samick with OEM stickers on them. I can't find that site right now but I found this.

FOR MUSICIANS.

Examples would be Fender's alternate badging of their guitars as being "Squier", "Fender", or "Yorkville/Traynor", and the world's largest guitar maker Samick badging their guitars as for "Epiphone/Gibson", "Washburn", "Hammer", "Slammer", "Kima", "Danelectro", "Archer", "Ibanez", "Rogue", "Hohner", "Slammer", "Memphis", "Montana", "Grand", "Dean", "Johnson", "Hondo", "Cruise", "Kramer", "Karera", "Sterling", "Lyon", "Mitchell", "Music Drive", "Santa Rosa", "Jay Turser", "DeArmond", "Abilene", "Shredder", "Sigma", "Sebring", "Eagle", "Rokker", "Joshua", and dozens of other marketed brands. ...

Two examples would be Fender's alternate badging of the same amps as "Squier", "Fender", or "Yorkville/Traynor", and Korg/Marshall's alternate badging of the same amps as "Marshall" or "Park." The world's largest instrument maker Samick badges their amps for OEM brands such as "Epiphone/Gibson", "Washburn", "Hammer", "Cort", "Kima", "Dinosaur", "Kustom", "Ric", "Danelectro/Honeytone", "Archer", "Ibanez", "Gretsch Rogue", "Hohner", "Yorkville", "Beckener", "Electra", "Brownsville", "Gorilla", "Ibanez", "Dean", "Hiwatt", "Dean Markley", "Johnson", "Pyramid", "Performance Plus", "Abilene", "Prime", and dozens of other marketed brands.

Perhaps Samick was so busy suckering the boys into buying "boy guitars" that they forgot about the girls.

Many of the girls have fine strong legs and they are less likely to be shooting junk into their viens. They can probably play their electric guitars standing up. A few of them might even be able to play their Daisyrock Heartbreaker well while standing up and wiggling their bums. Wouldn't that be frightening, boys!
