Llanstock 2 the conclusion

14 Oct 01 - 10:55 AM (#571741)
Subject: Llanstock 2 the conclusion
From: GUEST,EtV & Andrew

Hello those of you who are left or on their way home. Andy and I have just stopped for petrol, and a coffee and found a cybercafe in Tesco in Manchester.
It's like being on the boat,(From Germany) but there are only two of us here and some others who know nothing about mudcat.
We had a real good time, last night's celiedh was pretty good. Bill called and people danced. The musicians played music. The people in the kitchen gave out food, drink and generally "kitched"

A very big thankyou to Bron (Llanfair) for all the very hard work she must have put in to make the weekend a success.
Good to see Andreas from germany, and I'm sure that almost everyone will add their "tuppence worth" as we get home.

just like to say it's been a very pleasant weekend for a first time mudcat reveller ....thanks to everyone.ANDREW.
EVERYONE Please pm Skipjack and tell him we all had a better time than him!!!!!

Thanks to everyone, especially Bron, who made the weekend a success.

No, the rain held off, which was a relief to those of us who were camping.
It has been a delightful weekend, and it is a bit early yet to organise all my thoughts. However, first and foremost, a big thank-you to Bron for making everything possible, and thank also to the people of Llanfair Caereinion for making us welcome. If Llanstock 3 goes ahead it would be nice if we could find a way to contribute something to a worthwhile cause for the town.

It was lovely to meet so many of you, and I was deeply impressed by the musical skills you all displayed. I heard lots of good songs from some very good singers, and some excellent music as well. The singing in the Institute after the ceilidh, provided some of the sweetest harmonies I have heard in a long time.

My ears are still ringing from the looooooong notes of "Clementine" - my hearing aid has probably been permanently damaged!

our time apart will be short, and pass

Many thanks to Bron for organisation including my 'digs' for the two nights. Didn't really want to leave such a lovely town and equally lovely people.

Thanks again for the company and hope to see you all again very soon.

Well, what can I say???? Huge thanks to Bron and all her "little helpers" special thanks to Julia and the staff at Pippins for looking after a bunch of itinerent folkies as if we were " conventional folk"!!!
The singing and Music was wonderful.. and esp the final sing in the Insitiute on Saturday night!!! everyone should expierence such singing at least once in their lives!!!!, I will carry that with me forever!!! Pure magic...just all of it !!! and yes, Bron did get a few chances to sing!!! and very, very nicely,,,

Thank you Bron,

and everyone who sang or played in the singarounds, I thank you for your support and tolerence of my somewhat eccentric way of doing things..
now , back to trying to figure out the questions of Mrs Duck and the Maltesers!!!

All these naked men wandering about!! What do I get? An over excited poodle, female! ( But a very nice poodle, I must say ).

Now as to the sausages, did they actually get eaten? Are they still in the back of Liz's car? And I was assured that CMOT Dibbler had nothing to do with them!

They were supposed to be honey roast pork chipolatas, smoked pork with tomato+garlic+something and chicken with walnut and spring onion.

I only managed to post today as Parker tried to load up ntl world stuff and wiped out all my cookies!

Morty, I got in just after 9, no problem. how's the kitten? Has she got a name yet? I'm off to look at the photos ( which I will add to once I figure out how to! )

Sausages - are in the fridge, will investigate their edibility tomorrow. Couldn't face it today! Am now on anitibiotics so the swelling is going down slowly. Still having trouble eating, so am sticking to stuff like chocolate that melts. Maltesers are good, so are dragon droppings. Don't ask.

APPETITE WETTER - Seems a good time to say that following discussions with Bill Sables some while ago re a NATIONAL MUDCAT GATHERING I have looked at possibilities re renting an entire Youth Hostel for exclusive Mudcat use.

If we get a full hostel cost will be approx £7.50 per person for 2 nights ie £3.75 pnight!

Will post fuller details in a couple of days but could be Feb 2002 in LLangollen or Lake District. There is nothing suitable further South. Cheers John

My young love said to me, "Are you sure you don't mind
If I'm gone for the weekend, and you're left behind?"
Then she threw her arms round me, and this she did say,
"It will not be long, love. I'll be back on Sunday."

Then she got in the mini, and she drove to Llanfair,
To meet all the 'Catters who were gathering there.
They sang and they drank, and they ate lots of cake
And at three in the morning they were all still awake.

Last night I lay sleeping. My mobile it rang.
And proudly she told me the songs that she sang.
"I'm not coming home love," she to me did say
"I'm off to see Micca at the Getaway."

First of all: a

BIG THANKYOU

to all the musicians for all the good music. I really enjoyed all of it!

Thanks for putting up with me!

Of course, Liz, another

BIG THANKYOU

to you for bringing me to Llanfair (and back to London also). I now know where the last part of your Mudcat name comes from! I hope to get a replacement for my damaged right ear in about two and a half months - on New Ear's Eve ;-)

Sam and Bill: I put the "Bridging the Gap" CD on first thing this morning, it is great! After work I will give the Windy Bottom one a go!

Now, as some football trainer once said: after the game is before the (next) game! Bron, please book me into the trailer for next year. Liz, please book the passenger seat of your car for me for next year. Ickledorritt (spelling?), good news from the doctor, he said I might be able to walk again by the time of the next Llanstock, maybe even without a limp... ;-)

From: Micca

I had about 1/2 of this written when Snuffy posted his song above, so here is my attempt to encapsulate the w/e, and in spite of the great temptation I havent mentioned Malteasers or eyebrows...
LLANFAIR AND DELIGHTFUL

It was pleasant and delightful one midsummer's morn
In fact it was October but that wouldn't rhyme
Off to Llanfair Caereinion Mudcatters did repair
and the 'Catters sang melodious in the bars around Llanfair
and the 'Catters sang melodious (3x) in the bars around Llanfair

We Gathered at the Institute for Llanstock 2
To sing and meet friends and to Ceilidh there too
And Bron did us proud twas a hell of a bash
If it wasn't for melodeons and the Low Trailer Trash
as end of verse 1

Some songs They were depressing and some they were not
And one was a beauty about a big lump of snot
There was lots of good singing and for Jez a Happy B
And Bill Sables played melodeon fuelled by fags and Yorkshire Tea

Then the circle in the Institute it quickly grew
And every one was playing and was singing there too
And early next morning someone said "lets have one more"
Bron said "No you silly Buggers, I have to lock the door

It was fine on Sunday morning when the 'catters arose
As some in the trailer they searched for their clothes
Line up against the wall me friends for the group photograph
And we'll send it into Pene so they all can have a laugh

Goodbye Llanfair Caereinion until this time next year
As we all trudge off homewards full of friendship and beer
And well learn some new songs and tunes two or three
And we know we will return again and join in Llanstock 3

Was it his birthday recently then??

Lady P the CMOTs' are in the freezer now....

So what was everyones most memorable moment then?

Mine was singing a song and realising in the last verse, that there wasn't a single sound AT ALL anywhere in the Institute but my song..... a deep and meaningful hair on end moment - and that's a lot of hair! Coming a very close second to that was Lady P and I doing the Harp song of the Dane women - Lady P - I've got the words in my book now (we missed a verse, but who'se counting!), and realising that Lady P and I have never actually sung properly together before.....

That's all we've EVER done together - sing improperly!! We know a lot of the same songs but only ever get to do them with lots of other people.... this was the first time we'd done anything as a duet......

The last few miles of the drive to Llanfair, through the beautiful, rolling green hills, with the anticipation of meeting friends old and new and making music together.

BTW, I am fostering a collection of cans of Stella that were feeling lonely when everyone else had left the trailer. If the legal guardian wishes to reclaim them, I will keep them safe until such time as a handover can be arranged. Otherwise they will be adopted and assimilated...

Well, Mortie found a kitten a good home... :0)

Finally I got my photos on the way to Jeff (Pene Azul).

I had to have the film developped and got it back on Friday. I gave the slides to a colleague on Friday to scan them (I do not have a scanner for slides, only one for prints) which he did over the weekend. Monday and Tuesday I was not at work (fever and other un-nice things), so I only got the digital images yesterday. And they needed some bit of fine-tuning (as on some pics the flash did not work properly...).

All you have to do now is wait for Jeff to put the pics online.

Btw, SGD is of course known as Silly Girl Disease. I must have had an attack of BSE (bad spelling epidemic, not what here in Germany is known as BSE - bovide spongiforme encephalitis or mad cow disease).

Uuups, I think I divided the pile in two, on one side all the incriminating ones for my own use only, on the other side the harmless ones for giving to Pene.

But by accident ;-) I then used the first pile instead of the second for Pene...

Not too incriminating- lots of singing/playing/drinking going on- totally unrepresentative of the weekend... :0) I like the picture of the synchronised drinking orchestrated by micca- what was going on?

That chocolate cake was yummy, Andreas, you can come back and visit any time!

Thanks, Andy and Jeff.

Noreen, it was not orchestrated by Micca, it was the song from Alanww where everyone was supposed to make silly movements - I can't remember exactly what, ask Alanww about the details.

To answer your question some postings above: simple tunes - I still fight against the technic of the whistle

Btw, here is a blicky to the pictures

Bill and Sam (and Ian),

you nearly caused serious burning to me!

I was cooking some cranberry iam when I thought it would not harm to (at last) listen to the Windy Bottom 2001 CD I bought at Llanstock.

I was just beginning to fill the iam into jars when "The Rooster" was on. I nearly put some of the boiling hot jam over my hand as I had fits of laughter!!!

Great song!
