Didn't Christine Perfect record it with Chicken Shack before she went to Fleetwood Mac?

Hi, Skarpi, glad you are well. I learned this from Etta James, so this version is more or less what she sings. Here you go:

I'D RATHER GO BLIND
B. Foster/E. Jordan

Something told me it was over
When I saw you and her talking
Something deep down in my soul said "cry, girl"
When I saw you and that girl walking out

I would rather go blind
Than to see you walk away, walk away from me, child
'Cause you see, I love you so much
That I don't want to watch you leave me babe
Most of all I just don't want to be free.

I was just, I was just sitting here thinking
Of your kiss and your warm embrace
When the reflection in the glass that I held to my lips babe
Revealed the tears that was on my face

Baby, baby, I 'd rather be blind
Than to see you walk away from me, yeah
Baby, baby....I'd rather be blind....

Well done, Margaret. Saved me from trying to recreate it from memory without singing aloud to the amazement of my cubicle neighbours!

Well, Roger, I'm almost sorry I got to it before you in that case; would no doubt have been the highlight of the cubicle neighbors' work-day! Yes, Steve, I agree. Etta James sings it with such incredible emotion and tension... I am very moved by it. Margaret

Hmmm. I think I shall simply slump embarrassed in the corner for mentioning Ms. Perfect/McVie.

But she did do a damned good cover of it!

Thank you Skarpi for remembering this song. Christine McVie (McPhee?) had a hit with it in the late 60's when she sang it wth Chicken Shack. A beautiful song; I didn't know Etta James had also sung it. Now I'll have to go and buy another CD. What label is it on?

You're right, Matthew, according to the Guinness book of of hit singles, it was May 69 on the Blue Horizon label that Christine sang it with Chicken Shack. I thought it had been issued in her own name, Christine Perfect, before she married McVie, so I got that wrong. Really, how do you go out in front of an audience with a name like Perfect? You're asking for trouble, aren't you?! But she was, and is, great. - Ian B
