Help: James Madison Carpenter

I,m trying to find information on the American researcher, Prof. James Madison Carpenter. Apparently he researched sea songs/shanties collected in the South Wales Ports.

I do have Calennig's "Trade Winds" CD which features songs collected by JMC.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

An entire edition of the Folk Music Journal (EFDSS, vol.7, no.4, 1998) was devoted to him; try for a copy through inter-library loans or whatever the equivalent is where you live, or alternatively contact  EFDSS;  there are probably still copies available from them.  A project is currently underway to index the entire collection; I believe that that index will eventually be available online.

The index is now online, at

http://www.hrionline.ac.uk/carpenter/

It's hoped eventually to make the materials themselves available online, but this will depend on funding and the obtaining of appropriate permissions.

From what I've been led to believe, a lot of it is going online quite soon at the Library of Congress.
