On a trip to Arkansas a few years ago I found a guitar thumb pick that I really like. It can be seen on www.fredkellyspicks.com and is called the Speed Pick. Does anybody please know where I can buy them in the UK or send for them in small quantities? I would need to still be playing the guitar at 120 years old to warrant buying a bag of 24!! The thing I like about them is that they do not slip, are not real tight on the thumb, and they are more sensitive giving you a feel of touching the string. Surprisingly I've never had one break. I have been using them for around fifteen years or thereabouts. Incidentally, I live in Mio, Michigan about thirty miles east of Grayling MI whare the strings are manufactured. Cap't Bob |

I phoned the USA because I thought that was safer than putting my credit card number in an email. I've worked out that 4 picks, a share of the phone call, a jiffy bag and a stamp come to near enough £4. That's assuming that we're still doing a 6 way split. The only problem I have found is that you run through a lot of them because they break at the place where the thumbpick and the wraparound meet. I have found the Kelly picks being discussed here to be a great pick. I love it when I am doing arrangements that require an arpeggio spaced in between strumming. My Guild has so much volume that using the traditional heavy thumb pick is problemsome. Also it is hard to get a smooth chord sound. The Fred Kelly pick resolves this problem due to its material. I probably like the idea of the Herco better, I just got tired of breaking them. Mick |
