Then I will wrap it securely and post it off, and the hint is that my Santee lives in a different country to me. That's no hint at all because there are only 2 of us in Oz who are in the Secret Santa thing-y. Hints: part 1 fits the the Santee's colour choices beautifully, and I like it so much I wish I could keep it. Part 2 sort of fits another of my Santee's hints, but it is one of the best things created in Oz that I know of. I couldn't live without out it. Helen |

30 Oct 01 - 10:01 AM (#582596) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Bat Goddess Sorry, Santa Squid! I've not been spending a lot of time on-line lately for various reasons, even after Jeri started teasing me about her above posts. Ah, yes, I have, ah, "eccentric" tastes. Our house, an owner-built post and beam cape on 33 acres of treed and rocked hillside, is decorated in rubber lizards and rubber snakes, crawling up posts and draped around beams. The walls are filled with gravestone rubbings -- my life's work, pre-1825 mostly, particularly interested in typographic ligatures; how's THAT for obscure? -- maps, and deer skulls (the smaller skulls are on the shelves. I collect rubber squid, flamingoes, hippocampuses, printing paraphenalia and rubberstamps. (I used to have a business called The Rubbersmith, specializing in folk music, Thomas Edison, and gravestone rubberstamps -- wanna buy a rubberstamp company? -- but it didn't leave me enough time to do the art stamping I enjoy. (Come to think of it, working for a living as a graphic designer & copyeditor doesn't leave me enough time, either.) In another lifetime, I'd be a marine archaeologist. Curmudgeon and I give each other body parts, uh, RUBBER or other artificial materials, body parts for sigificant gift giving occasions -- such as museum quality repro skulls, a rubber bag full of eyeballs, a ball made out of rubber fingers, paper clips that look like ears and pencil sharpeners in the shape of a nose, etc. (The 10 year old next door LOVES to visit!) The origins of that custom is lost in the mists of pre-history. Oh yeah, bats. We should really get a government grant as a wildlife refuge (not to mention musicians -- they're wildlife, too, eh?) cuz we've got a nursery colony of Little Brown Bats, a window grey squirrel "terrarium" and flying squirrels in the dormer (drat!). Goddesses (especially Sarasvati), maps and globes, shells and bones and skulls and rocks and crystals and just interesting old stuff. The only thing I "need" is slate cutting tools, now that I've acquired some direction, good advice and a coupla good books. Does this help? If my Secret Santa is AllanC, slate from your quarry, but postage/shipping would be mucho buckso, alas. Does this help? Jeri, Sinsull, Micca, etc. could be PMed. Linn, the Bat Goddess, Cat Goddess and Type Goddess (would you like serifs with that?) |

01 Nov 01 - 09:45 AM (#583829) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Fortunato To Fortunato's Secret Santa: After rereading the posts above, yours and KarenB's, I regret my guessing game post above, though I don't know if there is any connection. Mudcat and the Getaway I have just returned from have made me rather cavalier about MY identity and real and assumed name (Fortunato). I'm naturally gregarious and open, and inclined to make friends easily and keep them forever. Like my father and Will Rogers, I never met anyone I didn't like, though some more than others. But I do realize some folks would rather remain, Santas and otherwise, anonymous. Those folks are entitled to that. I meant my post to you in fun, but please understand I have no interest in guessing who ANYONE is who doesn't want to be known. Those that want me to know will tell me. No, I don't recognize any of the names you signed, I haven't a clue who you are, Mudcat name or otherwise. OK? So let's go on with the fun, Secret Santa, I'm really looking forward to the surprise. I've had a great time with my giftee, and made a friend. What could be better! Regards, Fortunato. |

It's a fantastic gift, and so lovely to see the area where another Catter lives. THANK YOU!!! Right, it's time I started posting to my Secret Santee. I'm off to a conference in S.Africa for the next 12 days, so I'll try and get it mailed before I go. Thanks again Mary! This Secret Santa thing is proving to be a great success - and a lot of fun. |

I still have a PhotoLoft album and will be happy to post them there, if anyone's interested. PM me and we'll see what we can work out. :-) |

01 Nov 01 - 09:56 AM (#583846) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: SharonA Hooray!!! My Secret Santa got my "letter" (after a bit of confusion; that's okay)! I never stopped believing in you, Santa! :^) And you're "on the other side of the pond", eh? Does that make you more properly my Secret St. Nicholas? *scratching my head in bewilderment* I know you thought Bat Goddess's post was mine, but I still don't understand what "Marigolds" are or how they relate to rubber. I work for a seed company, and they have a giant inflatable sunflower in a pot (one of those god-awful things they put in front of stores to draw in customers), but no rubber marigolds. Is it slang for yellow rubber gloves? Just curious. BTW you're right; rubber's not my passion! Please give Rudolph and Olive (the other reindeer, the one who used to laugh and call him names) a tickle behind the ears for me! I'll be watching for your sleigh to land on the roof of my local post office!! Being just as good a girl as I can be (only had two beers last night!), Sharon :^) :^) :^) :^) :^) |

Hey Fortunato, no worries.....I was feeling bad because I was afraid I took the secret out of it for you, I like the idea of guessing etc. And shopping.... And sending... And besides what makes you think that I'm NOT a tall, titan-haired, buxom, chorus girl type!!! *BG* Oh Lord, if you could only picture that one!! ROFLMAO!!!!!! Harry (Damn, I just can't stop!!! *BG*)

(All the worms around here seem to be hibernating, but there are lots of ladybugs. Too crunchy, though.) Must drive to civilization and go shopping for the individual I'm Santa-tizing. At least THEY'RE gonna get something! Humph - bah, humbug. ;-) |

How about it, KarenB? |
01 Nov 01 - 06:25 PM (#584269) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: GUEST,Someone's Secreta Santa Just wondering what you're expecting to hear from your's. Some Santa's are witty & good at dropping hints, etc. Some are not & don't know how to join in the banter. Christmas is still far enough off that you can hardly think you're not going to get anything thing. Maybe your hints were enough of a clue so there are no questions. Or Santa's going to get you something particular regardless of your clues. Don't cry about Santa forgetting you until it's Dec. 26. |

01 Nov 01 - 08:20 PM (#584336) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Blackcatter Let me join the chorus of Santees who wish to know if their Santa is around. If I don't get my present until the end oc December, that's fine (though, I'm more of a Solstice kind of guy - and that's when I open the rest of my goodies). I don't need witty comments, hints or anything like that, just a reassurance that Santa exists. This is the first time I've believed in Santa ever - my parents never did the "from Santa" thing, since they were dyed-in-the-wool Atheists. pax yall |
01 Nov 01 - 09:22 PM (#584357) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Sorcha Oh, I am so glad I checked in here......yes, indeed my SS, I did miss that. At least I know I truly have one. Send anything you like dear, including more rocks, esp ones big enough to live in the yard year round.
I also don't have DeDannan's "Star Spangled Molly" and always need a "dusting/vacuming elf". Glass cleaner and furniture polish provided. (Oven is self cleaning--just turn the knob)
Someone to carry out the garbage when it stinks would be nice, but I doubt if you can manage that, or a new elbow so we'll let that pass. Most anything I really want I already have, so just suit yourself, OK?

01 Nov 01 - 09:56 PM (#584367) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: SINSULL Gee, Sorcha. Make it easy for Him/Her! If it's me, you just opened yourself to a litter of kittens! Serves you right. Merry Christmas! BlackCatter, I am totally confused. Your parents were atheists, so no Santa? Is Santa god? That would explain a lot. SINS,also an atheist. |
01 Nov 01 - 10:02 PM (#584370) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Sorcha Sinsull, I said anything I DON'T already have......I have (currently) 4 cats, 4 Corgis (dogs), 1 possum, 1 son, 1 daughter (that seems like 4) and 1 husband. I don't need no damn litter of anything!! (grin) Rocks are fine--they don't need food, clean clothes or clean litter boxes..... |

01 Nov 01 - 11:08 PM (#584388) Subject: RE: BS: Secret Santa HINTS THREAD PART THREE From: Blackcatter Thanks Santa Sinsull - My family never celebrated Christmas. We gave each other presents and had a wonderful mean and sang secular X-mas songs, but only to celebrate the joy of family and partly to make it easier for me when I went to school and was asked about the presents I received. I never was taught to think of Santa as a real person and grew up considering him to be a Christian analogy for Jesus that children could understand. (i.e. - be good all year long and receive your reward from the all-knowing, loving Santa). At this point in my life I celebrate Yule for myself and give friends presents for whatever holiday they observe. |
