04 Nov 01 - 06:53 AM (#585648) Subject: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Dave the Gnome Well, our festivals been and gone. There is a bit of time between now and whatever mid-winter celebrations you choose. Anyone fancy another Mancy Moot? Dates? preferences? Talking about Mancy - have we ever talked anout a Manx meeting? Could be great (Particularly if we start festivities on the ferry) :-) But that's for the future I guess. In the short term I suggest White Lion again - they now do food all day (well - till 7pm anyway) Saturday and Sunday. After the sucess of having the festival there all day last Saturday I guess Geoff and Liz would be more than happy to accomodate! Cheers Dave the Gnome |

04 Nov 01 - 09:13 AM (#585691) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Matthew Edwards Nice idea Dave. Dates between now and Yule/Xmas/Midwinter are rapidly filling up, and for me personally the weekend of 7th, 8th, and 9th December is probably best, but if you can come up with some other definite date I will try to make it. Love the idea of a trip to the Isle of Man - maybe next year. I seem to remember there are a few outlying 'Catters there. |
04 Nov 01 - 06:47 PM (#585911) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Dave the Gnome Early December than. I will ask the good folk(ies!) at the Lion on Monday if 7/8/9 is OK. Watch this space;-) Cheers Dave |
05 Nov 01 - 05:24 PM (#586213) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Matthew Edwards Anybody else interested? I promise I won't mention yesterday's match result (Liverpool 3 Man.United 1)again! Has a general depression sunk over Manchester? Its not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me... |

05 Nov 01 - 07:50 PM (#586321) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Linda Kelly Matthew Edwards that was a needlessly cruel comment, shame on you!!!! I may be up for it-as the bishop said to the actress-more details on dates please. I wouldn't mind an Isle of Man trip . Got a job their once which paid an outrageous salary and concessionary taxation . Turned it down for a third of the salary, to live in Hull. (Now to be stupid once is forgivable but twice......) |

06 Nov 01 - 04:09 AM (#586553) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Dave the Gnome OK - we're on. 6/7/8 Dec. There are at least half a dozen of us so we can make a go of it!!! Hopefully now there is something firm more people will be interested. The upstairs room at the White Lion is available for whenever we want to use it. Free and easy up to now. I would suggest meeting Saturday lunchtime (1-ish) and taking it from there. Just an idea - how about Afternoon singaround. Local curry shop (Or into Rusholme:-)) for a meal. Evening singaround. Get back together Sunday lunch to see who's got the stamina! Anyone fancy a Friday night session as well? Any other ideas? Fancy dress? Unicycle workshops? I'm open to suggestions (Well most suggestions...) ;-) Cheers Dave

06 Nov 01 - 04:47 AM (#586567) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Matthew Edwards Aahhhh! The curry heaven of Rusholme. Yes, yes, yes. That is a must-do for the weekend. Saturday at the White Lion sounds great (How do I get there?), and a Friday evening session could be fun as well. How about trooping over to Harry's in Failsworth on the Sunday? Fancy dress? Why don't we just find out what Sue vG. and Ickle are planning to wear, and then all come in identical outfits? |
06 Nov 01 - 08:43 AM (#586635) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,Spot the Dog How about a more formal concert on Saturday giving Mudcatters who want it a longer more formal set. From 0800 to 1130 we could accomodate 10 x 20 minute sets. On the other hand an informal singaround could be just as much fun.... Spot |
06 Nov 01 - 09:03 AM (#586651) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,MC Fat Worth it to come over for Rusholme just for the curry most of the retaurants in 'curry mile' are good but my sproglet who's at Manchest Uni introduced me to the Sha Jahanwhich is one of the best meals I've had. |
06 Nov 01 - 09:05 AM (#586654) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Dave the Gnome Yet another good idea! There is no reason why we cannot mix the two. 06 Nov 01 - 09:43 AM (#586676) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Matthew Edwards Spot, it doesn't seem that booking is needed, as Dave said that the upstairs room at the WL is available anyway. However it would be helpful to get some idea of numbers, and to invite non-'Catters to participate as well. PS Harry, as a folk club organiser and a City fan, have you ever thought about applying for help from the Minority Rights Action Group? Next thing, you'll be telling us you're a Socialist as well!!!! |
06 Nov 01 - 10:06 AM (#586693) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? Good idea on the numbers. We will keep this thread open and hopefully have an idea in a week or two. The room at the 'Lion is OK for any number from 6 to 50 (but a bit crowded at the latter!) I spoke to Geoff (the landlord) last night and he said he had no plans for the room that weekend anyway. I think there will be a few non-catters from Swinton anyway (and some closet catters as well). Please feel free to bring along anyone from your respective areas as well - the more the merrier! Come on all you 'catters who missed the Swinton festival - catch up on some Old Tom;-) Cheers DtG |

07 Nov 01 - 02:50 PM (#587645) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: 8_Pints You can count us in. If we were going to Rusholme for a curry, it would be logical to sing at the Ducie afterwards as it is just round the corner from Curry Mile! 07 Nov 01 - 05:13 PM (#587769) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Dave the Gnome This sounds quite interesting - a wandering meeting! White Lion Fri night / Sat Afternoon. Rusholme Sat tea-time. Ducie Saturday night. Would the Open Door be interested in Sunday afternoon or do we repair to the Lion again? If we go for this we need to make everyone aware of the times and stick to them - or people might not find us. Then again, perhaps that's not a bad idea...;-) Alternativeley do we just stick with the Lion of course. I'm easy (so I'm told) Ideas? Votes? Concensus? Cheers DtG |

Chorus: I'm a Mudcat, I'm a Mudcat, down Machester way, I get all my pleasure the musical way. I may be a wageslave on Monday, But I am a singer on Sunday. I love the idea of a peripatetic Meeting which seems to be developing. If I've understood correctly the schedule that is emerging looks something like this: Friday evening 7 Dec Singaround at White Lion, Swinton Saturday afternoon 8 Dec Open Mic at White Lion Saturday teatime Curry Heaven in Rusholme Saturday evening Music and Singing at the Ducie, Rusholme Sunday afternoon 9 Dec Open Door at Pauline's in Failsworth If this is correct, subject to any subsequent amendments, additions, etc etc then could some kind soul provide addresses of venues and/or directions to them. PS Spot, were you in Whitby for the Captain Cook Festival, and if so did we meet? Some of my memories of that weekend are a little hazy!! 08 Nov 01 - 06:39 PM (#588580) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Peter K (Fionn) I'm sorry to reduce a decent thread to such intimate detail, but Noreen has forced my hand. From the phenomenal archive that is Mudcat, it has been easy to establish that on 11 March this year, I said to Noreen: "I just wanted to give you a big hug for believing in (name airbrushed out to protect the innocent) against the flow." I said it by personal message, but should have told the whole world. Noreen replied in the warmest of terms, assuring me that both a pint and a hug await me in Manchester. In view of her heartbreaking memory lapse, I am glad of an opportunity to put the whole matter formally on record. |

HelenJ I've heard stories about you at the Sam Pirt workshop - luring young men into pubs!! Still what a wonderful birthday present from John. I did post a tentative schedule above which will need to change now that the Open Door on Sunday has been replaced by a session at the White Lion. 29 Nov 01 - 07:21 AM (#600085) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,HelenJ Matthew Edwards sir - don't believe scandal spread by the husband of the 'present Mrs. Skipjack'. He's just trying to stir it for me. Re your abhorrance of an 08.00 start on Saturdays, I'll have you know my friends and I meet at that precise hour every Saturday for breakfast an d music. It doesn't hurt one little bit! Mind you, the brick - courtesy of neighbours - has yet to come through the window. Cheers all, HelenJ. |

30 Nov 01 - 10:08 AM (#600904) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,MC Fat Proper spelling of Indian is Shaandaar on 155 Wilmslow Road. Only reason for thinking of booking is to try a screw a discount but as you say we can always turn up and go. |
30 Nov 01 - 11:24 AM (#600947) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,HelenJ. Anyone who wishes to break their fast with us is welcome! Horrified to see I wrote 'abhorrance' instead of 'abhorrEnce' when I have a phobia about spelling. Cheers Matthew, HelenJ. |
30 Nov 01 - 12:57 PM (#601006) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: John J I didn't realise my mum was called Matthew Helen. You learn something new everyday. Put me down for a nosh on Saturday. I'm also keen to know whose beer it is at the White Lion so I know if I need to come on my bicycle. John |
30 Nov 01 - 01:18 PM (#601020) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: John Routledge In addition to above 3 traditional singers from Wed. night at the Ducie will be at Ducie on Sat night. See everyone Friday at White Lion. - Robinsons beer I think JJ. The locals seem happy with it. Cheers Geordie |
30 Nov 01 - 06:17 PM (#601233) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Dave the Gnome Yip - Robbies it be. Best Bitter. Hatters Mild. Last count for the seasonal special was Robin bitter (very nice too) but Geoff is threatening to treat us to Frederics for that weekend. Bring a bag to keep your brain in... No Draught Old Tom I'm afraid but the bottles are quite nice. Other bottles include the very acceptable German Bitburger (sp?) and the very odd Strongbow spiced cider! Lagers are Carling and Grolsh. Not that I know anything at all about beer...;-) Cheers DtG |
30 Nov 01 - 08:30 PM (#601327) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Matthew Edwards JohnJ, since there seems to be a trend on Mudcat to adopt new identities (viz. Ickle/Linda and Geordie/JohnR) your mother and I have decided to go one better, and swap our names completely! So that if you now find your mum is wearing a beard, and singing bass notes, while my mother discovers me playing an accordeon (accordion?), I am sure that you will understand! And BTW, a late Happy Birthday to you (sorry, but I can't do fancy html) |

If there's anyone I could crash with, then I'm happy with a floor and a duvet, get on well with all aminals including Skipjack, I fart occasionally but I don't mind an early start to the morning..... LTS |
02 Dec 01 - 07:02 AM (#602087) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Matthew Edwards Liz, the more the merrier! It will be great to see you again, with or without appendages. Do be prepared to sing "The Harp Song of the Dane Women" again(even if it sounds only half as good without Lady P). Sorry I can't offer you anywhere to stay, but I'm sure some kind soul... |

02 Dec 01 - 05:13 PM (#602291) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,HelenJ. Just recieved e/m from Yvonne to say "Isn't Saturday the end of Ramadan?" In which case everyone must be on their toes dodging the high powered motors hired for the event by doting fathers for their sons to let off steam round the street of M/cr. Evidently the police are helpless to intervene. There was a rather nasty episode last year when a driver was stopped, slapped about a bit and lost an eye during the 'argument' with the powers that were at the time. Just a thought. HelenJ. |
02 Dec 01 - 05:49 PM (#602304) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: treaties1 Liz, I live about 6 miles from swinton, but as I don't drive I can only pop in to the meet as and when I can be sure of getting home. There is a bed available and you are welcome, just let me know. |
03 Dec 01 - 02:18 AM (#602569) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Liz the Squeak Treaties - if I bring the car, there is no problem... will see how Manitas feels about that!!! Whooopeee!! (can you pm a map please, as I have the directional talents of a dead stoat....) Oh, and Ramadan - think yourselves getting off lightly. We had 3 local teenagers killed here at Eid last year, doing exactly the same thing. Their car lost steering and went into a concrete pillar in the Limehouse link tunnel. Oldest was 19. LTS |
03 Dec 01 - 07:00 AM (#602615) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Dave the Gnome Just a thought about the Ramadan thing though - won't we have problems getting in somewhere is it is end of Ramadan on the Saturday night? If so, what can we do? Cheers Dave |
03 Dec 01 - 12:13 PM (#602733) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,HelenJ. Liz - you can kip here if you can put up with two cats sleeping on you and a dog licking your face (otherwise house trained) Re the end of Ramadan (I think it's called Eid at that juncture) Yvonne thinks it starts around 22.00 on the Saturday so if an early start is made to eat, there shouldn't be much difficulty. After that it's just a case of dodging the dodgems. I'll take more care with punctuation in future! HelenJ. |
03 Dec 01 - 01:42 PM (#602789) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: John Routledge Thankfully we should be well entrenched in the Ducie by 22.00!! Suggest head-count at 15.00 say in White Lion and then book somewhere from the pub. Cheers Geordie |

03 Dec 01 - 05:45 PM (#602969) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,Yvonne Sorry all- I was given duff information! Ramadan ends December 15/16th. So we miss it by a week. |
03 Dec 01 - 07:34 PM (#603024) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Liz the Squeak Does the dog do toes as well? Will PM those kind enough to offer bed space, to let you know if I will be there... I'm hoping to be able to pick up my two new cats en route back (that's via Leeds although the way I drive, it could be Lancaster!!) depending on the lady who is releasing them.... will get back to everyone soon... Thanks, hopefully see you there!! LTS |
03 Dec 01 - 10:03 PM (#603112) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: John Routledge Great news about Ramadan. Much less potential difficulty! Cheers and good feeding - Geordie |
04 Dec 01 - 08:03 AM (#603260) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: Dave the Gnome Anybody at all fiddler2 - the more the merrier! We had our first official night at the upstairs room at the Lion last night (We have been in the downstairs one nearly 20 years!) It seem to work a treat and it is reet good for folkie events. I will be at the Lion by 8:30pm on Friday - If anyone gets there earlier please feel free to either wait for me or Spot or make your way to the upstairs room. See you all soon. Dave |
04 Dec 01 - 08:17 AM (#603266) Subject: RE: Manchester Mudcat Meet? From: GUEST,Spot (at the kennels) If anyone is going to drink the Fredericks (assuming it's "on". Could they please wear a badge (button) saying so. Then we can ignore what they say and help them to the loo now and then. I will be at the Lion around 0830 PM latest and will have set the lighting and sound decks up beforehand (this will consist of throwing two switches and turning the fan on. Looking forward to turning names into friends.... Spot the Dog |
