Three of Swarb's long-deleted classic albums are now available on Atrax Records. The albums are: Lift the Lid and Listen from 1978, featuring Beryl Marriott, Savourna Stevenson and Fairport Convention, plus two bonus tracks from the album Swarbrick; 1979's The Ceilidh Album from Dave Swarbrick and Friends, featuring Beryl Marriott and Fairport Convention, plus two bonus tracks from Swarbrick 2; and Dave Swarbrick & Simon Nicol's In the Club, a reissue of the acoustic duo's 1982 cassette-only release with five previously unreleased bonus tracks, new artwork and new sleevenotes from Simon Nicol. Signed copies are available on request. Proceeds from sales go towards helping Dave with medical expenses and other costs relating to his emphysema. All three CDs can be ordered directly from Atrax Records. Visit the website for further details - http://www.alexlyons.co.uk

Reviews from Pete Fyfe of www.folking.com ------------ Dave Swarbrick - Lift The Lid And Listen (Atrax Records SNTF 763)/The Ceilidh Album (Atrax Records SNTF 764)

What more is there to be said about Lift The Lid and The Ceilidh Album than has gone before. Well, this is Dave at his cheeky best. Yes, you can put humour into the tradition without belittling it and just to prove it, here are the end results. Complete with spirited performances from all who participated - to list them all would take a ream of paper so I'll just concentrate on a couple. We have a lot to thank Beryl Marriot for because without her early influence on the man himself the folk world would have been robbed of one of its most colourful characters. Some have said of Beryl that her style of piano is like that of a dervish schoolteacher. Well, her delicate touch on the ivories is truly astonishing and I for one wish I had her as a teacher. I believe it was also Beryl that introduced Dave to the Manx tradition for it was here that I first heard the melodies 'Flitter Dance/Peter O'Tavy/Mona's Delight/Hunt The Wren'. This album also introduced the young clarsach player Savourna Stevenson joining Dave (playing mandolin not fiddle as quoted on the sleeve notes) on the title track. Many of my mates at the time thought these two albums were a backward step in Swarb's career. I didn't agree with them then and I don't now. There is a wealth of great material here and I for one would like to thank Alex Lyons of Atrax Records for taking the initiative in re-releasing two such historical recordings.

Pete Fyfe ----------- Dave Swarbrick & Simon Nicol - In The Club (Atrax Records Atrax 004)

Oh this'll be an easy album to review I thought on finding the enclosed sleevenotes from Simon. But then it dawned on me, I wanted to contribute my own memories of the time - so here goes. As Simon states, this album was released after Fairport had decided to call it a day (Thursday if memory serves me well!) Anyhow, I first bought 'In The Club' when Simon announced it was available at one of their numerous appearances at The Half Moon in Putney. The cassette was duly stuck in the car player on the way back from the gig and I remember thinking then (and even now) that here was more than a souvenir of a great night out. I won't list any favourite tracks, they're all great apart from which why should I be preaching to the converted when most self-respecting folkies should already have this in their collection. From his notes again, Simon says that he and Swarb were the best at what they did and by God, they were! Both artists were and are consummate professionals. Dave's sublime fiddle full of the cheeky charm of a teenager and Mr Nicol's amazing guitar technique pulled off what would have taken a whole band to achieve. If you were there at the time, the nostalgia will wash over you. If you weren't, I can only say you missed out on one of history's finest hours. By the way, there's five extra tracks which are all previously unreleased. What are you waiting for…?

I was lucky the other day and picked up an almost mint Ian Campbell LP for a stupid price, Dave plays on this LP.
Was this the first group that Dave was with ?
The LP was recorded in 1964
