Poets Corner or lyrics in need of a tune

COLLATERAL VERBAGE

It used to be shell shocked
Then it was mental breakdown
Now it is the post traumatic syndrome game

whites, red necks, Caucasions
blacks, colored, African Americans
ladies now feminists fiddle with hyphans in their name

It used to be 'we'
Then it became every man woman and child
Now it is "all of you, be you christian, muslim or jew

It used to be war
named after conquerors or numbered like WW II
Count the syllables in our war today, it won't be a few.

It used to be slain
then it was casualties
now it is collateral damage

It used to be A-Bomb
Now here's the exception
its a device, how nice, that we can manage

Stay in line
You're OK if you are a REAL American
Now when asked to swallow propoganda you are to be "respondsible and true"

In simpler times
there were phrases that said it all
Now we need a verbal * that will replace ALL the acceptable gender neutral non threatening politically correct phrases.

* your small pox, * your crusade, * your slogans, * you.

................................................
Good times , End times
As events turn worse
It's too late to learn
If you're breathing the curse
It may be our turn
With sorrow to come
Still the Dark Ages
Were Golden for some
..................................................

The racism in Boston
spills easily and frequently
from the lips of the unwashed
well dressed suburbanites.
From the show room
of a car dealership illegally open
on Martin Luther King day
I watched the bill board workers

They intentionally pasted
the MLK tribute scrambled;
"the least of us whenever
wrong unto me whatever you all do"

.........................................

I once got some M+M's"
that had the million dollar prize
it was lavender grey
they made it too ugly to eat.
I ate it

when mother had a stroke
she asked for the operation.
my dad said no all the way
to the hospital ethics board

I hate him

when she died he said " bet you're sad
its not your dad thats dead".
I told him I was glad his beatings
and abuse of mom was over

he hates us

now he is dead and gone and I'm glad
disinherited I felt free
free of his slobbering shouting
but he forgot to sign the will, it now

goes to me

its not what he wanted or craved
he couldn't buy my trust or respect
he gave the house to my moms best friend
but he forgot to sign the will, so now

I'm not free

I ate the M+M and I was OK
without great wealth I was fine
but my dad with all that money
could not afford to be decent, but that

won't be me.

..........................................

All my prophesies
have been unheeded
in hindsight one sees
they all were needed
I write the words
I can not stop it
but when no one heard
there was no profit

........................................

the spice of life
----------------------------------------
Is variety the spice of life?
So many are multi-talented.
I have always dived head first
into regions unknown to me
and try to figure things out for myself
the reward is often a headache
Being an only child
may be the reason
I work things out by myself
but I think being immersed
in the diverse is one way
to rail against mortality.

doing one or two things well
for an entire lifetime
is the path to mastery
but I enjoy the eclectic
despite the limitations
of time to own expertise

just as some people
enjoy being one color
some prefer all the vibrations
of the universe.
have you spread your radiance
so thin as to be unfelt?

the rainbow or the laser
the pillow or the razor
warm breath or gale
whisper or rail
a tear a lake
to dream
to wake

.....................................

Some scientists believe
blue eyes see a wider spectrum
from ultra violet to infrared
brown eyes see a narrow spectrum
but with more intensity
to every color they see
If you could choose
which would it be?

.................................

The frog in the shallow well
met a kindly crow
The crow said "If you want out
let me know".
"Isn't this all there is," said frog
The crow grabbed him and flew
In a mud puddle the frog was agog
"This is unbelievably huge".

With that they went to the lake
The frog was dizzy with infinity
"This is all I can take"
They then flew to the ocean

The frog's brain exploded

This old violin
of 200 years
was in pieces
and now plays like new
I wish that I could do that too

How many hands
spidered down
your strings
until they'd cramp
While you remained a genie's lamp

Did you ever
drown in the sea
of an orchestra
until no one
heard you sing skip and run

I wish that
all the things
you've heard
music that you bring
were stored like water in a spring

I would drink
and feel the wind
of generations
go around and round
And hear the lifetimes in your sound

Smell the earth
where your wood grew
Fire in your finish
Before you were new
Know the tension of curves and hue

Now you're silent
your master's gone
at the peak
of your marriage
Your new player is still in her carriage

of 200 years
was in pieces
and now plays like new
I wish that I could do that too
How many hands
spidered down
your strings
until they'd cramp
While you remained a genie's lamp

Did you ever
drown in the sea
of an orchestra
until no one
heard you sing skip and run

I wish that

And hear the lifetimes in your sound

Smell the earth
where your wood grew
Fire in your finish
Before you were new
Know the tension of curves and hue

Now you're silent
your master's gone
at the peak
of your marriage
Your new player is still in her carriage

Thanks Sorcha. Thanks again for telling me about mudcat.
Did I ever tell you that I was a clinical hypnotist for 12 years and often had to improvise poetic post hypnotic suggestions that would fit each individual. Sometimes I was a Bagger Vance kind of character and sometimes authoratative - whatever seemed most receptive at the time.

fatal secrets

------------------------
When I was a hypnotist
I saw many atheletes
Some then excelled at golf
or bowled a perfect game

Then a body builder came
who wanted super strength
with words I psyched him up
and he died within the week

I vowed to stop at my peak
I found out it was steroids and speed
that caused the fatal result.
Within all of us a seed exists

Of the problem that persists
because we will not admit it
to ourselves or others.
It is the seed of self destruction

The Bowmaid's Travail
By Aleezabet

The line was formed and straddled
By many a shapely calf
The Marshall called the nocking
And winked at the pretty lass.

All the bows were drawn tight back
Many bowstrings touched to cheek
As they fired their fledgling flights
They heard the Maiden "EeK!"

"Sing Hey, Ho listen and beware
If ye've any over large parts
Ye'll keep them out of there!"

The bowman smiled and nodded
As the Maiden struck a pose
"Try again M'Darlin Dear…
"And watch out for y'er nose!"

The Maiden rubbed her forearm
And looked backward with a glare
Nocked yet another arrow
And hit the bull's-eye right square.

"Sing Hey, Ho, listen and beware
If ye've any over large parts
Ye'll keep them out of there!"

Gentles all they tipped their hats
The Marshall cleared the rye field
The Maiden went to fetch her flights
The men trod close at her heels.

Returning with manly stride,
Yet again, she took her stance.
The bowmen's eyes all glimmered,
With mischief far in advance.

"Sing Hey, Ho, listen and beware
If ye value ye're pretty young parts
Ye'll keep them out of there!"

Pulling back hard on the string
To her ruddy cheek so close
She let another arrow fly free
The string hit her in the nose!

Tears welled in the Maiden's eyes
The gentlemen rushed the Dear
Wiping the pretty lass's face
Of every single tear.

"Sing Hey, Ho, listen and beware!
If ye value ye're pretty parts
Keep them well out of there!"

They brushed the few strayed locks
Of auburn from her dear eyes
Handed her the fine longbow
And heard the fair Maiden sigh.

"Try again, M'Dear Mistress"
T'is for ye're form we do fear
So be very careful maid
Keep those nipples out of here!

Sing Hey, Ho listen and beware
If ye value ye're perky parts
Please! Keep them out of there!"

T'was 'pon the final flurry
As she drew string back to cheek
"Thwack" went the taunt bowstring
And yet again the Maid "Eeked!"

The maiden blanched deathly white
'Pon her brow there came a frown
Still, when the Marshall called count
She shot yet another go round.

"Hey, Ho, this songs not meant to scare
T'is simply a friendly warning
Not to put ye're pretty parts there!"

Tolstoy Toy Story
--------------------------------
If there is a gun
you try to ignore
in act 2, it will
go off in act 4

We watched the Bond films
multi billionaires
took over the world
but there were errors

Somehow Bond lives on
The bomb countdown ends
007
Its life he defends

Have 'THEY' suceeded?
Bond in real life failed?
We all watched the films
I think we're all nailed
