09 Nov 01 - 07:42 AM (#588883) Subject: RE: Flook! From: Anonymous Helper Thank your Catspaw49 Not a self-publicity spam, just a good band - somehow my message got lost. sorry |
09 Nov 01 - 07:46 AM (#588888) Subject: RE: Flook! From: mooman OK so I'll pitch in with my biased opinion! One of the finest bands I have ever heard anywhere (as I have said in previous threads about this group). Virtuoso whistle and flute, stunning guitar and immaculate bodhran playing. Bugger it! I'll miss them in Brussels (Centro Galego - La Tentation) at the end of November as I have to go to Florida for wretched work meetings! Hope this "legitimises" the thread! mooman |
09 Nov 01 - 07:48 AM (#588889) Subject: RE: Flook! From: Murray MacLeod Mooman, whereabouts in Florida are you going? Murray |
09 Nov 01 - 07:53 AM (#588893) Subject: RE: Flook! From: catspaw49 That it does mooman! Not that we don't believe A.H. there, but I'm glad to hear your opinion. I'll check 'em out. And tit-for-tat.........One of my favorites now is a young group called Nickel Creek......No way to describe them really, but they come from the bluegrass tradition with pop-rock-classical influences......and they just WAIL!!! Spaw |
09 Nov 01 - 08:04 AM (#588900) Subject: RE: Flook! From: mooman Dear Murray, I'll be flying into Fort Myers on 27 November and then driving on to nearby Sanibel Island, returning on the evening of the 30 November. mooman |
09 Nov 01 - 08:16 AM (#588908) Subject: RE: Flook! From: mooman 'Spaw...I checked out a few Nickel Creek samples and I agree...they motor! They seem to be doing a similar thing for blugrass as Flook! are doing for Irish music. Best regards, mooman |

09 Nov 01 - 02:34 PM (#589107) Subject: RE: Flook! From: Noreen Interesting... what is your connection with the group, Anaonymous Helper? (Sad oldie here remembers JohnJoe Kelly as a sweet little fresh-faced lad with a bodhran several sizes too large for him- er, not much changed there then....!*grin*) Noreen |
09 Nov 01 - 06:12 PM (#589300) Subject: RE: Flook! From: Murray MacLeod Mooman, I live on the other side of the state in Homestead, about a three hour drive. There are some serious guitar freaks here with severe "GAS". If you had an evening free you would be more than welcome to come on down and stay the night here. There will be a folk concert on Thursday 29th here, don't know who's playing right at this moment. What time is your Friday flight ? Murray

09 Nov 01 - 06:36 PM (#589319) Subject: RE: Flook! From: lamarca Mooman - are you a birdwatcher by any chance? One of my favorite vacations was a Christmas spent on Sanibel Island, going to the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge (yes, that's really its name) to look at all the neat birds - anhingas, ibises, white pelicans, herons and other wading birds. It was the first time I'd ever seen alligators, too. The Virtual Birder has a little tour/birding quiz of the refuge here. |
09 Nov 01 - 06:55 PM (#589342) Subject: RE: Flook! From: mooman Thanks lamarca...I am as it happens! I'll be sure to pack my binoculars on your recommendation. (Looks like precious little work's going to get done!) mooman |
09 Nov 01 - 11:15 PM (#589507) Subject: RE: Flook! From: Gypsy Thanks for the link, Spaw. We also think that Nickle Creek is a terrific band. Regardless of age. Flook looks pretty darn promising, too! |
10 Nov 01 - 04:05 PM (#589814) Subject: RE: Flook! From: mooman Dear lamarca I went to the Ding Darling last time I was there but had precious little time before closing time and I didn't have my bins with me that time. Did see an interesting looking floating log a few feet away though...until it opened its huge jaws and gave a great snap! mooman |
