It's in the DT, but very difficult to find (it took me a long time a couple of weeks ago, that's why I know):

Azekatarle

I've no idea which is the correct spelling.

The lyrics are not identical but close to what Blue Murder sing.

I have it on a CD by the (Liverpool) Spinners. They spell it Asikatali.

This ia a link to Blue Murder's singing. As Wolfgang said, it is very close to the DT version (well, I based my Blue Murder transcription on it). The main difference is the original line "It is for freedom that we gladly go" changed to "It is for freedom that we're fighting now".

There are many of these liberation songs. What language? They are in several.
See this South African article for some explanation.

This one was sung after Sharpsville (1958)- post above by Reinhard.
Songs went in and out of favor.
A recent article in iol.co.za says former ANC chairperson Lekota spoke out about ANC songs ...when he questioned the relevance of certain liberation songs to current challenges and he condemned the singing of "songs whose message is to demand machine guns."
Gone are the days of Siyay' ePitoli (We are marching to Pretoria*, to take the seat of government), Ngomhia sibuyayo kothula kuthi tu; kokhal' imbayimbayi (On our return, it will all go quiet but the machine gun).
They've been replaced by: Xa siye kelela uZuma, sophalala ngumbutho... etc.

Unless one knows the meaning of a song, and what group favors it or what group condemns it, it seems that one could easily offend an audience or segments of it.

Just looking for the origins of this / versions on the web. People also call it Asikathali , and Asika Thali.

The version I know has the line "in Makele, they shot us down, but we will rise up united" , does anyone know where Makele is / what that refers to? There's a Makele in the Central African Republic, or is it the same incident as Sharpsville, or a different one?
