Aparently two songs were sung at my GG-Grandfather's funerial in 1939. One was 'Beautiful Isle of Somewhere' and the other was 'The Homeland'. I know he was Irish and involved in the Methodist Church. All hints (tune or lyrics) welcome. |

Homeland
I see the touch of sadness in your eyes It's hard to be sure with nothing but a title. I'll go look at Levy and see if there is any thing there. |

It would have been known in '39 at least. I think the one I posted above is also a "new wrote" song, but it would make a nice funeral song. |

I think as well that Hymn of the Homeland is a good fit and I will include it in my family history as a 'more than likely'. Thank you for the documentation as well. I like to cite all material - do things properly you know. I will be sure to cite this site and your assistance. Thanks once again for your quick and apt reply. |

The land of the free-born— There's no night in the Homeland, But aye the fadeless mom. I'm sighing for the Homeland,— My heart is aching here; There's no night in the Homeland To which I'm drawing near. My Lord is in the Homeland, With angels bright and fair; There's no sin in the Homeland, And no temptation there. The music of the Homeland Is ringing in my ears; And when I think of the Homeland, My eyes gush out with tears. For those I love in the Homeland Are calling me away, To the rest and peace of the Homeland, And the life beyond decay. There's no death in the Homeland— There's no sorrow above! Christ bring us all to the Homeland Of His eternal love! |
