ISRAELITES SHOUTIN' IN HEAVEN

Cho.
Shout on, Israelites a-shoutin' in de Heben,
Shout on, Israelites a-shoutin' in de Heben,
This day, the Israelites a-shoutin' in de Heben,
Somewhere, Israelites a-shoutin' in de Heben,
I know, Israelites are shoutin' in de Heben.

Well Moses led dem children,
On down by de Red Sea side,
When de chillun they cried Moses,
Did you bring us down here to die?

Cho. Both times, Israelites a-shoutin' in de Heaven, etc.

Well, Moses led dem children,
On down by de Red Sea sho',
Den de angel come a-shoutin' on de water
Crying yonder dem chillun go.

Cho. Go on, Israelites a-shoutin' etc.

Well, was one December mornin',
Was about dat twenty-fifth day,
Two angels came from Heben down,
An' they went back singin' this song.

Cho. He done born, Israelites a-shoutin' in de Heben, etc.
Done born, Israelites etc.

Well, on the twenty-fifth day of December,
When Christ, my Saviour was born,
Dey wrapped him up in swaddlin' clothes,
An' den they hold him up to keep him warm.

Cho. All night, Israelites etc.

Well, Joshua, we was a-marchin',
Around that wicked town,
When de sun stood still up in de sky,
Den de walls come a-tumblin' down.

Cho. My shout, Israelites etc.
Shoutin' on, Israelites etc.

Well, don't you be like pharoah's daughter,
All dressed in rubies and gold,
She had a diamond ring upon her finger,
But she died and she lost her soul.

Cho. She wouldn't bow, Israelites etc.

ISRAELITES SHOUTING

[Another song, "Israelites Shouting," reflects on the death of various loved ones, all of whom now are "hidden behind God's altar," where they will remain until judgement day. The following stanzas are excerpted:]

Oh I wonder where's my sister,
She's gone away to stay.
Got hidden behind God's altar,
She'll be gone till judgement day.

Chorus (after each stanza, with variations)
Goodbye, the Israelites shoutin' in the,
Goodbye, the Israelites shoutin' in the heaven
Goodbye, the Israelites shoutin' in the heaven
Goodbye, the Israelites shoutin' in the
This day, the Israelites shoutin' in the heaven
This day, the Israelites shoutin' in the

This day, the Israelites shoutin' in the heaven
This day, the Israelites shoutin' in the

Oh I wonder where's my father,
He's gone away to stay.
He left his church this mornin',
And now he can't be found.

[Stanzas that follow name the mother and various other relatives, and then:]

God knows I am a Christian,
God knows I'm not ashamed.
Well the Holy Ghost is my witness,
The angels done signed my name.
