20 Feb 98 - 08:15 PM (#21892) Subject: REQ: lyrics for Walk on, Boy From: Chet W. I once heard Doc Watson do a song that was really another version of the John Henry story. It was called "Walk on, Boy" and was a blues in a minor key. He only did three verses and it seems to need more. Would appreciate it if anyone could help. The verses I know are: >I was born one morning, the rain was pourin' down >I heard my mammy say to my pappy, Let's call him John Henry Brown. >CHORUS Walk on, boy, walk on down the road >there aint no one in the whole wide world >gonna help you carry your load. >I left my mammy and pappy at just about the age of ten >I got me a job workin' on the levee totin' water for the hard workin' men. >If anybody ever asks you, who is that fellow Brown >You can tell 'em I'm the boy that left his hammer smokin' when he drove that steel drill down. Thanks, Chet W. |
