Jesus Walk Around Your Bedside

Cho.
Don't you want Jesus to walk around your, walk around your sick bedside?
I do want Jesus to walk around me, walk around me till I die.

Life is like a mountain railroad with an angel near my side,
Jes' keep your hand upon the throttle and your eyes upon the rail.

Well, don't you let old Satan lead you, he will lead you off astray;
An' when he catch yo'all for meanness, he will go an' leave you lay.

Cho. 2
Don't you want Jesus to walk, Jesus to walk, Jesus to walk around you,
Walk around your sick bedside?
I do want Jesus to walk around me, walk around me till I die.

My mother's dead an' gone to Heaven, an' she lef' me here alone;
I have no friend or no relation, none to teach me right from wrong.

Also on Selah Jubilee Singers Vol 1 Document (DOCD 5499).

Most probably related is Roscoe Holcomb's 'Walk Around My Bedside' from the Holiness Church. RH 'High Lonesome Sound' Smithsonian/Folkways SF CD 40079.

The 'Life is like a mountain railroad' image and stanza may well have come from 'Life's Railway to Heaven' (Abbey/Tillman 1890) which Norm Cohen notes was modelled on an 1860's poem by Will Hays called 'The Faithful Engineer'.
