I'm searching for the song: "One More City, One more Town", sung by Colin Wilkie, the German words came from Hannes Wader "Manche Stadt und manch ein Land". I can't find it in the database. Thank you! Oh, I only know the refrain: "One more city, one more town, one more long, long road to travel on, one more lonely day to pass, one more empty whisk*y-glass, one more girl to forget me when I'm gone."

Hi, I am also looking urgently for this song. I had already contact to Colin and some of his friends and have some other lyrics, if somebody needs it! Thanx, Snobby

Pat Sky wrote a song called

"Many A Mile"

I've damn near walked this world around, Another city, another town, Another time to say goodbye, Another girl to sit and cry.

Chorus) And it's many a mile I've spent on this road, Many a mile I will go!

(there's more but can't dredge it up...)

Hi Art, thank you but this is not the song we are looking for. In a German version sung by Hannes Wader the song is called "Manche Stadt und manch ein Land". We still need the English lyrics and the chords! Thanx Snobby

Say, Snobby, can you post the German lyrics to the song? I found these, but not "Manche Stadt." I hadn't been familiar with him, but his lyrics are very good.

Hi Joe, I will take my Colin Wilkie CD "I Wish I Had Written That Song" with the (mostly German)songs of his friends singing Colin Wilkie titles as a tribute to this tremendous songwriter and send you the words of Hannes Wader in the next days. Bye, Snobby

here are the German lyrics to this song. My memory says that the English version is the original, written by Colin Wilkie. I was completely sure I had them some place, but I was wrong. Since my brother was singing them once, there's a chance...

Now I see why Wolfgang didn't copy them over. even with the <pre> command, the chords don't post here correctly. If you want to see the chords in the right place, follow Wolfgang's link.

Joe,
How strange that the Preformatted tag didn't work. I looked at the source for Wolfgang's link, and that's how they did it. I even tried it myself and opened it in Netscape as a local file and it seemed to work fine. What happened when you used the preformatted tags? Could it be that the lines are too long? Your posting above doesn't seem to have the tags now, so I can't telll without posting it myself. I hesitate to try it, since you apparently already did.

Hi, Bert - I followed Wolfgang's link and did "view source" with MSIE. Then I copied the text from there, beginning at < pre > and ending at < /pre > - I thought that would be all I needed. Then I pasted that block of text into the forum reply box, and what turned up was a mess - no margins at all. So, I went back and put in the line breaks so it would look halfway decent.
I tried it again, copying from < html > to < /html >. Not only does it make my message three screens wide - it also does the same to the one message before it. I guess that means the < pre > command isn't the solution to our problem. Any other idea for posting chords? Other than posting them at the beginning of the long like "Rise Up Singing" does? Actually, I kind of like that method myself.

How do you go back in and alter something you already posted?

You ask for help, Barbara. Right after the botched message, post another message asking that somebody fix the previous message. If the right person sees the problem, they'll fix it. I believe there are a few people who have edit buttons so they can fix goofups and duplicate messages and the like - the only one I know of for sure is me, but I imagine Max has given buttons to a few others. I "came out of the closet," as it were, when somebody caught me fixing something.

Well, Joe I'm about out of ideas. It still seems that the <PRE> method should work, just as it did in Wolfgang's link, unless there's something else in the Mudcat page that interferes with it. Just for grins, here's a much simpler attempt:

G C
When I was young I used to wait

G D7
On Massa and hand him his plate.

Well Joe, that about half worked. I don't know why it ate the spaces before the first G chord. Maybe it didn't on your browser. I also don't know where the leading space on each line came from. What do you suppose was different between your attempt and mine? Maybe nothing, since mine was at least partially scrambled. Mysteries like this haunt me unmercifully until I find an answer.

Well, Bert, you entered line breaks < br > in the preformatted text, and I didn't. That's one difference. The original source didn't have line breaks, though.

Subject: Lyr Add: ONE MORE CITY, ONE MORE TOWN (C Wilkie)
From: Wolfgang

I always wanted to have these lyrics. So I had to buy the CD. Here's my transcription (this time without my usual plea for corrections). Wolfgang

ONE MORE CITY; ONE MORE TOWN
(Colin Wilkie)

One more city, one more town,
one more long, long road to travel on,
one more lonely day to pass,
one more empty whiskey glass,
one more girl to forget when I'm gone.

I must get out on the road
even though I'd rather stay with you,
but I'm scared that if I do
I might fall in love with you,
and that, my friend, is a thing I mustn't do.

If I'd known before we kissed
that I'd feel the way I do [tune repeats tune line 1]
I would have never ever passed your way.
But in the silence of the night,
when you held me so tight
was then I knew I must be on my way.

So I thank you for the wine
and for the night you lay there by my side.
I will think of you a while,
your eyes, your hair, your smile,
while I'm waiting for a car to let me ride.

Yes, I go down to the south,
where the wind and the sun will burn me brown,
where waiting there for me
are the mountains and the sea
and another lonely, lonely town.

Repeat first verse.

Most likely in the time passed the spacing has been figgered out, but just in case...

Seems it needs a "fixed width" indicator after the "Pre format" ie <pre><tt>TEXT</tt></pre>.

The close returns to "variable width" & "normal"

(I think this is the hard way to write things...)

The picking sounds close to the original to me.
