Looking for the lyrics to Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys version of "Nyquil Blues." The web is full of references to the song but the lyrics are not anywhere I can find them. Please help me rest at night and thanks in advance!

What you need is an exact phase FROM the song and not the title to do a good web search. Be sure you have the words right as well as the spelling, but the title generally gets you nowhere except by accident.

Spaw,

Thanks for the tip. So far I have found the following:

"They call me Nyquil junkie, But I don't know what they mean. My soul just can't be satisfied, Unless my tongue is green. Analgesic decongestant, and an antihistamine."

Still looking. R/No Rest At Night.

Best I can do from memory Chorus Well gimme a bottle of Nyquil, that restful sleep my body needs

Gimme a bottle of Nyquil, that restful sleep my body needs
Analgesic decongestant, with an anti-histamine

I went to 7-11, the man says "what you need"?
I said " a roll of duct tape and a case of Nyquil please

Chorus

They call me Nyquil Junkie
I don't know what they mean
But I just can't be satisfied unless my tonque is green

Chorus

Use only as directed, don't exceed the proper dose
Keep out of reach of children, keep the bathroom cabinet closed

Chorus

Clifton's memory is spot on, except that Crow has the 'Take only as directed' stanza as second last and the 'Nyquil junkie' one as the last. The song was written by Herb Steiner who was pedal steel guitarist in the Pleasant Valley Boys. A recording of it by Crow is available on CD: Alvin Crow 'Texas Classic' Broken Spoke Records 9608D (1996). Steiner is not in the band on that CD, but is in the band on the Crow's 1976 LP - 'Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys' Long Neck Records LN-001 - wherein 'Nyquil Blues' features a tasty blues harp solo by Roger Crabtree.

I really liked Alvin and the Pleasant Valley Boys, what's become of Alvin over these twenty or better years? I heard he was still active in Austin and is involved with something involving teaching music to children, is that true?

I have recorded an mp3 file of 'Nyquil Blues' from the 1976 LP 'Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys'.

If anyone would like a copy of it... Email me at crazywlf@telepath.com

Alvin is still putting well known Western Swing pretenders to shame, he kicks ass.
And, yes, he is also involved with the Natural Ear music camp.

"GUEST" from above me is correct; Alvin is still active in the Austin scene & plays the Broken Spoke probably 2 times a month as well as teaches.

& He's 100% the best fiddle player I've ever come across in my life.

I remember seeing Alvin Crow play at the Cotton Club outside Lubbock Texas, and eating Stubbs Barbeque and drinking Shiner beer....those were the days.

I once had a flatmate who liked to get high on a related substance (I think the active ingredient was chlorpheniramine, maybe with some dextromethorphan).

One one trip, he got lost in the toilet. There was a swarm of black insects the size of rats circling round the ceiling light and he was so hallucinated he couldn't find the door to get out, the whole room was a uniform swirly fuzzy electric green.

I guess if your quotidian reality is that you live in Texas, this might feel like fun in comparison.

Maybe good to remember that steel wiz Herb Steiner wrote Nyquil Blues.

Also that the idiot manufacturer tried to suppress the song. This thread suggests they weren't totally successful.
