Help : Greek Translation - eithe genoime

This has nothing to do with music but as this is the only chat room I would ever contribute to and I know there is a great deal of knowledge out there, I thought I would prevail upon your good nature. A friend's elderly mother is getting very annoyed as she cannot remember the meaning of a saying she learned at school. The phonetic pronunciation is 'eithe genoime'. She thinks it is as well known as the Latin 'Laborare est orare'. Can anyone help? Thanks

To work is to pray.

But the Greek means "If only it might happen!" or "Would that it would occur!". Does that help?

Dear Sinsull Thank you so much. I knew the LAtin one - just used it as an example - but my classical Greek is too far back for me to have worked it out. Great - you have made an old woman happy!
